Maintenance And Grounds Person
Reports To: Facilities Manager
Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Alternating Sunday Mornings
Position Summary:
The Church Maintenance and Grounds Person is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and overall maintenance of the church building and grounds. This role ensures that facilities remain safe, clean, and in good working condition to support the church’s ministry and daily operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on church buildings, equipment, and fixtures.
- Conduct basic electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry work as needed.
- Utilize hand and power tools to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
- Identify and report major repair needs to leadership and coordinate external contractors when necessary.
Facilities & Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure all church facilities are in good working order, including HVAC systems, lighting, restrooms, and kitchen appliances.
- Perform minor repairs on doors, locks, furniture, and fixtures.
- Maintain and update maintenance logs and schedules.
Groundskeeping & Outdoor Work
- Perform lawn care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and seasonal cleanup.
- Remove snow, ice, and debris from walkways and parking areas as needed.
- Maintain flower beds, shrubs, and trees to keep the church grounds neat and welcoming.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure church property is free of hazards and meets safety standards.
- Set up and take down equipment for church events as needed.
- Monitor and replenish maintenance supplies.
- Assist in emergency repairs and respond promptly to maintenance requests.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in general maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
- Experience with lawn care equipment and basic groundskeeping tasks.
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools, or a willingness to learn.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Comfortable working on ladders (6’–12’) and being on feet for an entire shift.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (hot/cold seasons).
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
