The Maintenance Associate is responsible for maintaining the hostel property through proactive problem-solving, timely repairs, and routine maintenance. This role requires a combination of independent initiative and teamwork. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated maintenance experience, but we also welcome applicants with strong "handy-person" skills, a willingness to learn, and excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Position Details:
Pay: $20 - 23.50 per hour, DOE
Type: Full Time, 32-40 hours/week

Role Objectives & Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance throughout the property, including grounds maintenance, building repairs, and preventative maintenance
- Maintain the physical condition of the hostel to HI USA standards, ensuring a positive guest experience
- Record and resolve work orders promptly, anticipating and responding to hostel needs
- Monitor and address pest control issues
- Perform janitorial duties and support housekeeping as needed
- Assist with special projects or duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
- Proficiency in plumbing, painting, HVAC, electrical, or general repair skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills, adept at interacting with diverse personalities
- Sound judgment, able to work independently or with minimal supervision
- Effective multitasking and comprehension of instructions in English
- Physical capability for duties such as lifting and extended standing
- Spanish skills
- High school diploma or GED
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to sit, use hands and arms
- Frequently required to stand, walk, talk, and hear
- Occasionally required to climb or balance
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required: close, peripheral, vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
