Trinity Metro has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Manager. The incumbent in this class performs under the general direction of the Director of Maintenance and assists in the management of a variety of work to accomplish the goals of the Maintenance Department. The incumbent assists in planning and managing programs related to maintenance, repair, cleaning, and replacement of transit vehicles. The incumbent provides recommendations to ensure the quality and safety of the vehicle fleet and its availability to operations. The incumbent ensures adherence to federal and state regulations. The incumbent provides technical support involving equipment, warranty, training, specifications and safety programs. This is a supervisory classification with responsibility for guiding maintenance employees in their duties. The incumbent ensures that employees in the Maintenance Department follow company policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Director of Maintenance with goal setting, planning and budgeting, and vehicle and physical plant maintenance. Recommends and implements strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Monitors all maintenance activities including quality assurance training and inventory control to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Analyzes and evaluates reports, practices, and trends for ways to improve operation of department, e.g. fluid reports, road call tracking, safety campaign, equipment recalls, warranty issues, scheduled maintenance, identifies maintenance trends with the QA technicians; plans and establishes new procedures and takes action to prevent, resolve, and manage problems.
- Supervising support staff/supervisors and managing and developing maintenance staff personnel.
- Assists in the preparation of annual budget, and monitors to ensure budget goals are met. Researches and makes recommendations for financial decisions, including purchase and receipt of buses, parts, equipment, and tools. Makes purchasing decisions.
- Assists with ensuring all invoicing is processed timely and correctly.
- Establishes fleet standards to improve fleet reliability in a cost-effective manner.
- Ensures compliance with the following Agencies: EPA, TCEQ, TNRCC, State Comptroller’s Office, TxRRC, DPS, DMV, LEPC, OSHA, and FTA.
- Performs special projects and administrative duties, including writing specifications for equipment, parts, or vehicles; writing status reports; establishing plans to correct maintenance problems, etc. Uses computer to prepare reports.
- Coordinates with outside vendors to determine equipment and special tool requirements. Ensures that all maintenance contracts are being accomplished according to specifications.
- Communicates with union personnel and other supervisors to coordinate work activities, etc.
- Monitor and evaluate the performance and skill levels of various types of technical and service personnel, and supervisors.
- Responsible for the monitoring and daily work in the Main Bus repair facility, electronics shop, van shop, body shop, and service station.
- Responsible for controlling labor, material and inventory along with expenditures to comply with budgetary limitations.
- Coordinates vehicle movements with operating locations.
- Reviews and analyzes, with Maintenance Analyst & QA Tech, the techniques and procedures to improve work efficiency and quality. Implements plans and Policies.
- Coordinates and monitors personnel matters, including defining staff levels, selecting personnel, recommending work schedules, evaluating employees’’ work performance, and recommending disciplinary actions; assists in investigation of union complaints and grievances. Ensures personnel decisions comply with legal guidelines, company policies, and union contract.

EDUCATION
Four-year college degree from an accredited college or university with a major in business management, industrial management, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or another related field.
EXPERIENCE
Five to eight years of progressively responsible experience in transportation management, vehicle maintenance, mechanical/equipment maintenance, engineering, or other related field, preferably in the transit industry (including specialist or supervisory work).
