Maintenance Officer / Handyperson - School

Key Responsibilities: Facility Maintenance: Perform general maintenance of facilities and grounds that do not require a tradesperson. Preventative and Minor Repairs: Conduct non-specialist preventative maintenance and minor repairs to school buildings. Versatile Maintenance Tasks: Tackle a variety of maintenance duties, ensuring the school facilities are always in excellent condition. Event Setup: Monitor the school environment and organize necessary furniture and equipment for events like assemblies and parent-teacher interviews. This includes heavy lifting in accordance with OH&S guidelines. Independent and Team Work: Collaborate effectively with the maintenance team and work independently on assigned tasks without direct supervision. Effective Communication: Engage with staff, students, and tradespeople, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. Supervision: Oversee and guide other support staff in their duties. Safety Commitment: Maintain a strong commitment to Occupational Health and Safety standards, ensuring a safe and professional working environment. Duties: Handyperson works Basic carpentry Lock repairs Gutter/drain cleaning, including roof access Furniture movement and repairs Building and room inspections Painting Preventative maintenance checks Grounds maintenance (trimming trees, cleaning litter/leaves) Assist in dealing with emergencies, e.g. Broken windows, minor damage, graffiti removal and cleaning or any other problems You will also be required to undertake any additional duties as requested by the Principal, Facilities Manager, and Business Manager. Requirements: Skills: Experience as a handyperson / tradesperson, ideally with carpentry or gardening expertise Mandatory: Working with Children Check (WWCC) Availability: Full Time Monday to Friday. You must be available during 1 week of school term holiday breaks but will get 6 weeks of annual leave Safety Standards: Ensure appropriate workplace safety standards, including equipment maintenance OH&S Compliance: Undertake relevant OH&S requirements per Department of Education and Training standards What’s on offer: A full time position for an initial 12 month period with potential for permanency.
