Job DescriptionJob DescriptionJob Summary: The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining an orderly and secure Maintenance Shop and Facilities, including the internal and external upkeep of our building and surrounding property. The role will ensure the preventative maintenance of our production equipment, fixing equipment malfunctions between scheduled preventative maintenance operations, and for ensuring that sound electrical, plumbing, compressed air, heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and drainage systems are always available and in working order.
Principle Responsibilities:
• Perform Setup, Change Overs and Preventive Maintenance of various production and packaging equipment.• Perform Lubrication, Cleaning and Inspection of production and packaging equipment, including tooling (punches, dies and dosing discs) for equipment such as tablet presses and capsule fillers.• Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics and basic understanding of electrical circuits and PLCs.• Maintain personal hygienic practices to always guarantee cGMP compliance, especially when transitioning from facilities maintenance projects to production process maintenance work.• Assure to always follow safety regulations.• Follow written, approved, procedures for general housekeeping, cleaning of overhead structures, and the handling and disposal of solid waste and trash to achieve cGMP sanitary compliance within the building.• Ensure preventative maintenance is properly scheduled with Production and Packaging departments in order to meet customer service goals.• Work with Production and packaging departments to help with packaging department during down time in maintenance.• Follow written, approved, cleaning and maintenance procedures exactly to always maintain cGMP sanitary standards within the Production and Packaging Departments.• Maintain and secure tools, parts, and supplies.• Ensure that non-food grade lubricants and chemicals are kept securely and are segregated from food grade supplies.• Participate in monthly sanitation audits with QA Personnel.• Document all work performed and maintain proper documentation and records of projects and work completed.• Act as point of contact for outside contractors/vendors and schedule vendors to come in to perform maintenance, repairs or equipment replacement.• Attend all cGMP training classes. • Perform other duties, as assigned.
Additional Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each principal responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education: High school graduate , but not required if proficiency in communication, mathematics, work habits, and attitude is demonstrated during the probationary period. Experience: 2-5 years of hands-on experience in a solid, full scale, manufacturing environment. Experience working in the vitamin or food manufacturing industry is required. Physical Requirements: Work requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted, or up to 100 pounds with mechanical assistance; standing, walking, bending and/or stooping for periods of five hours or more; moving and examining objects at high and low reach, and reading for periods of three hours or more. Position requires normal visual acuity.
Additional Skills and Qualifications: Knowledge of cGMP standards to ensure the maintenance of the cGMP standard of quality. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance work instructions, procedure manuals and SDS sheets. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in written form. Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must have ability to solve moderately complex problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations. Must have a deliberate and acute sense of documentation of all activities while in the manufacturing environment. Must be familiar with and be able to communicate via e-mail, verbally and in writing. Must be able to communicate effectively in a cross functional team environment to complete work tasks as instructed. Demonstrated attention to detail and thoroughness are critical. Must have sound judgment and decision-making skills. Familiarity with and ability to use computer software including word processors & spreadsheets (Microsoft Word, Excel), and ERP Systems . Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Forklift certified.
