JOB SUMMARY

This person in this position is responsible for participating in and supervising the repair and maintenance activities of the Maintenance Division; supervises designated employees engaged in repairing and maintaining city properties, facilities, vehicles and equipment, streets and right of way. The incumbent works with considerable independence in scheduling work and exercises wide discretion in determining the proper and most effective work methods under the direction and as designated by the Department Director.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Parks and Recreation

  • Supervises the maintenance and repairs of City facilities, equipment and buildings by performing carpentry, electrical, painting and plumbing;
  • Maintain the day to day maintenance needs of the Douglasville Town Green.
  • Participates in and supervises the repair and maintenance of parks and recreation facilities, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical components, grounds and other duties necessary as required by the Department Director.
  • Manage all aspects of aquatic facilities, including pools, splash pads, or water features.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations related to water quality, cleanliness, and facility operations.
  • Schedule and oversee routine maintenance, repairs, and seasonal preparations for aquatic areas.
  • Develop and implement maintenance plans for playgrounds within the park system.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety hazards, damaged equipment, and necessary repairs.
  • Coordinate with vendors or contractors for specialized repairs or installations.
  • Assists the Department Director in preparing and overseeing contract work including general contracting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and other related contracts when necessary;
  • Responsible for managing contractors and projects as designated by the Department Director;
  • Supervises certain construction and maintenance of buildings, facilities and grounds in general; supervises and physically participates in a variety of manual labor tasks as necessary;
  • Operates heavy equipment such as but not limited to backhoes, track loaders, motor graders and excavators; Drives and maintains variety of trucks and equipment; Uses and supervises the use of a variety of tools;
  • Performs routine upkeep, maintenance and cleanliness of facilities, tools, vehicles, equipment and field work site/areas, including the maintenance shop and surrounding area;
  • Ensures that proper supplies and materials are ordered and on hand for all tasks; Completes daily reports and sees that records are properly kept and that reports are prepared as designated by the Department Director;
  • Interviews subordinates in charge of various phases of work and gives them specific orders, discusses work progress and ascertains the amount of materials needed;
  • Completes Performance Evaluations of subordinates;
  • Calls and supervises crew(s) for after-hours work and events;
  • Must be available 24/7
  • Performs other related duties as required;

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Requires High School diploma or GED; five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance including some supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates Degree or Trade School certification .

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and ability in the planning, preparation, and installation and finishing of sidewalks, curb/gutter, driveway aprons;
  • Knowledge of a variety of task relative to maintaining and repairing streets, storm sewers, right-of-ways and grounds, considerable knowledge and ability to perform and supervise certain construction and maintenance of buildings, facilities and grounds in general.
  • Knowledge of construction of facilities, streets, right of way and other related construction projects when necessary;
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; plan and direct activities of several crews;
  • Skilled in the operation of a variety of vehicles, equipment and tools;
  • Ability to maintain an excellent physical condition.

CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a valid State of Georgia Class B CDL Driver’s License; Required to attend related training and acquire related Safety Certifications.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is very heavy work and requires balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others.
