SENIOR LEVEL

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN III

 

MAJOR PURPOSE

The Maintenance Technician III is a senior level position within the facilities department.  This individual is expected to perform major repairs, improvements and possess leadership skills in a variety of trades under the direction of the maintenance supervisor.

 

EDUCATION

  • Must have an AS degree, technical school and minimum of 5 years maintenance experience /or possess the equivalent work experience (15 + years)

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES


Mechanical

  • Rebuilding and Repair of  precision Speed Reducers and Clutch Assemblies
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometer, calipers, gages) in order to qualify tight tolerances needed for precision components, such as bearings, gears and seals
  • Must understand roller bearing fundamentals, including standard size codes, precision classes and standard installation/lubrication practices
  • Must understand gearing fundamentals (spur, helical)
  • Must understand V-Belts, timing belts and sheaves, including standard belt sizes and proper tensioning methods
  • Experience with chain drives, including sprockets, idlers
  • Experience with lubricants, both oils and greases, and the ability to use them in the correct applications
  • Hydraulic experience, including rebuilding of pumps, valves and cylinders as well as specifying internal components such as seals, springs, etc.
  • Metal fabrication experience, including basic machine shop practices and blueprint reading
  • Experience with gas fired equipment, including BTU calculations, controls, regulators, gas valves, high limit circuitry, burners and proper ventilation
  • Plumbing, including proper sizing of water lines and drains
  • Carpentry skills (wall fabrication, repair)
  • Redesign mechanical systems, components for improved reliability, quality and/or costs.
     

Electrical

  • Experience with electrical distribution and wiring, both 120 & 208 volt, single & 3 phase, including proper circuit sizing
  • Must be familiar with Electrical Code and local code practices
  • Ability to re-design electrical / electronic circuits for improved machine reliability
  • Ability to draw and read complex electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical or electronic control systems circuits down to component level, including relay logic
  • Ability to fabricate new control panels for older equipment
  • Diagnose / troubleshoot both 3 phase and single phase AC motors, DC motors.
  • Must have experience with temperature control systems, including programming skills for temperature controllers
  • Variable frequency AC drive troubleshooting and programming, DC drives
  • PLC troubleshooting and programming skills (Allen Bradley, Siemens)
     

Safety

  • Must be familiar with lockout/tag out procedures or ability to learn
  • OSHA 10, PPE, HAZCOM training or ability to learn

 

Other

  • All skills, abilities and duties of a Maintenance Technician Level II.
  • Work with little-to-no technical direction
  • Able to support a 365 24/7 operation
  • Must be able to specify, order and track new electrical, mechanical or hydraulic components.
  • Must be able to develop and implement preventive maintenance procedures
  • Ability to make welding repairs
  • Good organization
  • Experience with bakery or related equipment
     


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sustained physical effort expected:
Lifting frequently up to 40 lbs.; occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance
Push/Pull frequently

Vision must use visual observation as a source of information
careful attention to detail - strong Eye/Hand coordination
distinguish colors
Hand Motions frequent simple and firm grasping
Hearing distinguish sounds of power tools and equipment, without visual aids.
Wear and utilize required Personal Protective Equipment as defined by Safety policies.
