Summary: The EHS, Environmental Health & Safety, is responsible for developing and executing company safety policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of employees. Responsible for assuring compliance with OSHA, CAL OSHA, HAZMAT, EPA, Storm Water and Waste Water compliances. Responsible for the overall safety and wellbeing of our employees. Also responsible for Physical Security Operations and Security Systems.
Requirements:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Manages the health and safety program by developing and implementing policies and procedures including assuring that all employees are properly trained. Goal and focus are to develop a culture of safety.
• Responsible for directing the Safety Committee meeting and advising management of any and all safety needs as deemed necessary by the Safety Committee.
• Assure all new hires, including temporary employees and contractors, attend safety training prior to assigned work.
• Assure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, i.e., OSHA & CALOSHA.
• Develop, train and enforce JSAs (Job Safety Analysis) on all equipment/machinery that has potential for injury or property damage.
• Responsible for HAZMAT materials, both receiving, destruction and shipment coordination to destruction sites.
• Responsible for all HAZMAT profiling of waste.
• Handle all DTSC (Department of Toxic Substances Control) required reporting, i.e., EVQ and DTSC Biennial Reporting to Sacramento, CERs (California Environmental Reporting System) and RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act).
• Handle LA County Fire Department Fire CUPA reporting. Always assure inspection ready with Fire Department and other officials.
• Oversee EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) number(s) for the company. State and Federal.
• Handle CDTFA (California Department of Tax and Administration) hazardous substance and handling .
• Responsible for all Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and Monitoring. This includes implementation of the storm water plan, storm water discharge activities, calibrations, lab testing and State ADHOC reporting to the Water Board.
• Manager the Waste Water programs as dictated by the County Sanitation Department.
• Assure company abides by Prop 65 and other related California environmental laws.
• Develop and applies best practices to prevent work-related injuries/illnesses.
• Development and oversite on Pandemic Plan, Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, Emergency Action Plan for the Company. This includes all work involved with committees surrounding each of the plans.
• Set up and oversee yearly Hearing Conservation & Respiratory Protection programs.
• Handle Protective Footwear program and vendor. Assure Manufacturing employees receive new Safety Shoes yearly.
• Create and maintains safety records, data and develops accurate metrics to support safety initiatives and reports.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits for identification of non-compliance and implements preventive and corrective actions.
• Investigate work-related accidents and incidents to identify their root cause and ensure safe working practices are being followed and implements corrective and preventive actions.
• Responsible for making sure our Los Angeles location is a safe and secure environment to work in.
• Be available 24/7 for any safety, fire, or security related issues and advise management of updates as required. Including power outages.
• Inspect and evaluate the environment, equipment and processes in working areas to assure compliance with government safety regulations and industry standards.
• Identify and remedy potential hazardous biological and chemical materials.
• Direct all janitorial duties.
• Key Control. Manage all building and office keys. Assign keys as requested.
• Employee Lockers Distribution and cleaning. Assign lockers as needed to employees.
• Train & Certify on-site Emergency Medical Team in CPR/First Aid/AED.
• May be required to perform other duties as assigned or as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Chair and lead the Safety Committee to ensure compliance with OSHA & CALOSHA guidelines as well as all HAZMAT and security issues. Manage the Day Porters and night janitorial duties. Manage on-site Security Professionals.

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field.
• Minimum 7 years in manufacturing type environment (pharmaceutical, cosmetic or food ).
• Minimum 5 years with EHS experience.
• Security, both physical and systems, background is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Must have advanced working knowledge of applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, regulations and guidelines.
• Must have the ability to conduct incident investigations, interviewing individuals, and issuing corrective action.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must have the ability to facilitate meetings, present to groups and to explain technical safety concepts in simple terms. Must have the ability to write policies and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal, people skills to ensure collaboration and teamwork. Must have the ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and with a diverse workforce.
• Computer proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong planning, organizational and time management skills.
• On call 24/7 with ability to promptly respond to any safety or security incidents.
• OSHA 30-hour certification.
• Active drivers' license in good standing with ability to travel locally to all company facilities.
