Reporting to the Director, Mine Engineering, the Manager, Mine Planning will be responsible for design, planning, project analysis, reporting and decision-making support for key projects and mine expansions. The successful candidate will be engaged in providing critical thinking and technical analysis in all capacities within the mine engineering discipline for the company for both internal and external opportunities.

This position has the potential to either be based out of our Corporate office in Chicago, or to be a remote/home based position; with travel to project sites as required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, environment, community, and the ability to work safely.
  • Provide, promote, and maintain technical excellence across the business.
  • Provide or coordinate expert mine engineering support to existing mine sites, when requested by the operations or Technical Services.
  • Deliver robust planning and analysis in mine design, scheduling and in understanding their impacts to corporate business goals for surface and/or underground operations.
  • Assist in development of corporate guidance and standards.
  • Will manage or assist with engineering studies (PEA, PFS, and FS) for projects as required.
  • Support internal and external project evaluation initiatives.
  • Utilizes experience and background to detail study and project execution risks and opportunities to senior management.
  • Effectively work with other senior team members in areas such as technical services, operations, health & safety, finance, legal, corporate development, projects, and environment & social responsibility to ensure cross-functional communication and delivery of goals.
  • The development and maintenance of relationships across the multi-cultural business is critical. Role must maintain effective relationships across a diverse group of stakeholders and levels of the business.
  • Contribute to site strategic planning, scheduling, and budgeting efforts using Deswik scheduling and mine planning software, with a preference for experience with Deswik.GO
  • Participate in merger and acquisition activities by conducting due diligence evaluations on mine designs, schedules, risks, and opportunities
  • Contribute to operational Business Improvement (BI) projects and Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) projects by providing technical expertise and engineering support
  • Available to travel as needed, both domestically and international. The person in this position is expected to travel between 25-50%.

Job Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Geological Engineering or related field. Particular desired experience in:
  • planning operations with complex multiple mines, multiple process situations;
  • Leadership of a team or department;
  • Mine equipment selection, application, and cost estimation;
  • Relevant understanding of geotechnical issues and design methods for mitigation;
  • Unit costing methods for budgeting and forecasting; and thorough understanding of surface and underground mining methods, mine design, and production scheduling.
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in design and planning for both open pit and/or underground mining operations.
  • You are considered a “Qualified Person” for the purposes of reserve and resource declaration as defined by NI-43-101 and/or S-K 1300.
  • Ability to lead initiatives and to be a member of a team.
  • Effective in verbal and written communication across all levels of the business.
  • Very strong computer skills and ability to analyze complicated data sets.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Suite, including Microsoft Project.
  • Expert in use of at least one mine planning software (ranked in order of importance) including Deswik, Whittle, Vulcan, and Xeras.
  • Relevant underground and surface mining operations experience required. Preference given for candidates with experience in both open pit and underground mining operations.
  • A Master of Science in related field is a plus.

The salary range offered for this role is USD $130,000-$135,000 range. The salary range is a good-faith estimate. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Coeur Mining will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Coeur Mining.
