Managing Counsel - Commercial / Construction
Job Description
Heriot Brown Legal recruitment have been tasked to find a Managing Counsel for a major multi- energy company.
This position will support the company in reviewing and delivering commercial and corporate legal advice to the business. The post holder will work closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to support the timely, efficient and compliant delivery. This role would ideally suit a lawyer who has experience of delivering infrastructure projects. This could be a step up from legal or senior legal counsel with a background in construction /infrastructure and the desire to manage.
Principal Accountabilities:
- To take the lead in managing particular complex, high value or high-risk matters, including developing strategic ideas or solutions to complex matters or situations in support of the business unit requirements, contemplating business risk in all matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate and manage a variety of commercial and procurement agreements (excluding construction contracts) including templates, contracts, NDAs, side letters, consulting and service agreements, marketing, SAAS, IT, general terms and conditions
- Provide legal advice to corporate teams, including finance, HR, land / planning, debt finance, regulatory, compliance, export controls
- Supporting the companys capital and debt raise project, including with commercial due diligence
Leadership Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions:
- Responsible for the line management of lawyers, paralegals, interns and/or trainees including providing guidance and support.
- Provide guidance and support to direct reports (and wider team), including personal development, setting objectives and engagement in the annual performance management process.

Knowledge & Experience
The post holder is required to be admitted as a solicitor in England & Wales or equivalent common law jurisdiction
- The post holder should have excellent working knowledge and experience in the following areas:
- Must have relevant post qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister admitted in England and Wales, or equivalent qualification.
- Focus on commercial transactions and general corporate matters (expected to be 6+ years, all relevant experience considered).
- In-house experience infrastruction background would be beneficial
Delivering a pro-active, business-focused service that anticipates risks and prevents problems.
Well-rounded legal knowledge and experience preferably (though not necessarily) in the projects sector and commercial acumen.
