Job Title: Manufacturing Design Engineer



Location: Hull, HU9



Annual Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 -DOE



Shift Pattern:



Mon to Thurs - 8 a.m to 5 p.m

Frid-8 a.m to 2 p.m

Purpose of the Manufacturing Design Engineer:



The role of the Manufacturing Design Engineer will be to enhance production by designing and standardising procedures, creating work instructions, developing tooling methods, implementing lean processes, and driving continuous improvement in product design and manufacturing.



Key Duties:



Assist with engineering projects and all departmental functions

Support process design from concept to product delivery

Develop new and existing production methods and systems

Provide onsite support and advice to design, production, and purchasing teams

As a Manufacturing Design Engineer, you will read and create technical drawings

Manage and update drawings due to design changes and improvements

Identify and implement design standardisation and modularisation

Review manufacturing drawings for clarity and feasibility

Support R&D projects and provide feedback for production-ready designs

Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and stakeholders for data sharing

Produce and review documents like worklists and cutting lists

Support testing and technical documentation for build systems

Generate and manage contract build reports and lesson learned files

Perform additional ad-hoc duties as required

Requirements:



Technical background in engineering (mechanical and electrical) with at least 3 years' relevant industry experience

Proficient in Autodesk Inventor 2021, Vault 2021, AutoCAD 2021 (iLogic experience a plus)

Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Solid knowledge of steel, timber, and GRP composites

Familiar with Whole Vehicle Type Approval regulations and Design for Manufacture principles

As a Manufacturing Design Engineer, you should have experience in Lean Manufacturing environments

Practical commercial vehicle bodybuilding/van conversion experience (beneficial)

Understanding of engineering methods, including composite materials, GRP, aluminium, and steel

Strong visualisation skills and attention to detail

Excellent communication skills, effective in cross-departmental interactions

Leadership in project meetings across business levels

Experience with 5S and Kaizen methods

Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills, works well independently and in teams
