We are looking for a hands-on mechanical engineer to lead the development of adult and pediatric strollers / wheelchairs from the concept phase to volume production launch. Strong technical capability, project management, and teamwork skills are critical to the success of this position. Daily activities would include specification improvements, design optimization, physical testing, vendor management, etc. This is a great opportunity to work for a professional, product focused company.
Responsibilities:
- Under minimal supervision designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates mechanical systems for adult and pediatric strollers / wheelchairs including overall project management.
- Engineer tubing/extrusions, plastic mechanisms, and design for assembly / articulation
- Create 3D models, 2D drawings, and BOM’s using SolidWorks / PLM
- Conduct and/or support engineering analysis, simulation, and physical testing to ensure the strength, durability, and safety of product designs.
- Create and manage detailed BOM readiness planning including cost, mass, and timing
- Collaborate with suppliers to proactively resolve technical issues to ensure on-time and quality first articles and production
- Lead data-based root cause analysis and implement robust corrective actions
- Create & improve standard design specification documents based on lessons learned
- Create design and validation reports as requested
- Ability to maintain timelines and meet due dates
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
Experience:
- 5-10 yrs of designing and launching mechanical products (Auto, Medical, or similar)
- 2-4 years of vendor management
- High level working knowledge of 3D CAD Software (SolidWorks strongly )
- Design for manufacturability experience (tubing, welding, machining, assembly)
- Lab physical testing – strength, durability, regulatory (ISO / FDA / MVSS or similar)
- ASME Y14.5-1994 GD&T
- SolidWorks kinematics ()
- SolidWorks linear FEA (nice to have)
- Utilizing MRP/ERP system to build BOM’s and costing ()
- High computer IQ with proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Travel may be required up to 10% to sister companies, tradeshows, or suppliers
Education & Training:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical )
- Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) or equivalent experience
- Six Sigma certification and/or training ()
