Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

Job Classification: Exempt

Department: Sales/Engineering

Supervisor/Manager: Production Manager

Principle Objective:

Responsible for the effective support of the sales, purchasing and manufacturing departments which includes participation in activities related to satisfying customer requirements, and provides technical assistance for new product introduction, and project quoting.

Responsibilities

NPI

  • Responsible for the management of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. Create and test (NPI) designs, formulate manufacturing specifications, as well as the needs and goals from function to aesthetics. Thoroughly report all findings for improvement to the customer.
  • Create a product design that fulfills a company or client's strategic goals while integrating the needs of marketing, sales and manufacturing departments.
  • Track, monitor and escalate if necessary all NPI project deliverables ensuring schedule is met. Also accountable for the manufacturing schedule of new products in pre-production state and develop ramp up plans.
  • Assists Manufacturing in specifying tools and equipment required to perform manufacturing tasks efficiently of new projects.
  • Oversee the conception and design of manufactured goods, fine-tuning until the process is ready to release and train to production.
  • Review and approve control plan, production routing, and all production documentation.
  • Conduct or provide detailed input for engineering testing of product including written test plans, FMEA and final engineering reports.

PRODUCTION SUPPORT:

  • Responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Performs engineering design evaluations. Recommends alternations to develop and design to improve quality of products and cost reduction.
  • Lead and approve testing procedures, manufacturing processes, programming, design tolerances, and draft specifications for manufacturing. Provide product training to production workers.
  • Review and approve Engineering Change Notifications (ECN) applicable to product line responsibilities.
  • Ensure proper upkeep and maintenance of revision controlled technical documents as required by ISO 9001.
  • Provide technical support and assist in resolution of manufacturing problems as required.
  • Pursue and support cost reduction activities to achieve established company goals.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), Masters is a plus.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing development experience
  • An electronics manufacturing service (EMS) background is strongly
  • Knowledge of IPC standards and ISO9001 quality standards are strongly
  • Experience in facility layout, workflow analysis, and process flow mapping.
  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing knowledge, and 3+ years of experience in the field or in a related area or equivalent education/experience.

Skills Requirement:

  • Proficiency and thorough understanding of Engineering software and MRP systems
  • Must have a strong focus on internal and external customer service
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS Visio, MS PowerPoint, and Engineering software.
  • Exemplary interpersonal and training skills
  • Ability to work independently, resolve technical and manufacturing issues without detailed direction, and work as part of a team
  • Ability to work within strict deadlines and efficiently work on multiple projects with accuracy.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of BOM, assembly drawings, schematic, and other customer required documentation.
  • Expert working knowledge of manufacturing systems and advanced understanding of manufacturing costs, influences, and containment tactics.
  • In-depth product manufacturing comprehension including rationales and limitations.
