With nearly 500 workers across locations in Peterborough, Toronto, and Arnprior,  BWXT NEC supplies nuclear fuel and fuel channel components, services, equipment and parts for the CANDU nuclear power industry.   Manufacturing Engineering Team Lead   We are looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Team Lead for our Peterborough, Ontario site.  BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. The team members are located in 3 buildings at the BWXT Peterborough site.   RESPONSIBILITIES: Key factors for success are motivating a diverse team, managing and achieving results through influencing and setting of expectations/actions, engineering and product excellence, effective resource allocation and activity management, task/milestone completion on-time/on-budget. Organize and delegate incoming work to team members. Balance workload across the team and redistribute work as needed. Facilitate the preparation of proper plans and schedules with individual contributors. Take ownership of the cost/schedule commitments of the team. Maintain task surveillance through active engagement with your team and driving accurate work planning through consistent meetings. Maintain team and individual allocation targets, enforce budget adherence and review job budgets and runout estimates as necessary. Review cost estimates and proposals prepared by team members, actively lead and execute complex estimates and proposals. Review and approve team members’ weekly time entries. Actively participate with Functional Manager in resource planning, recruitment, interviewing and onboarding. Participate in long term development of Manufacturing Engineering Team including organizational change, skill/knowledge assessment and development plans and execution. Provide training to new employees. Assess training and skill gaps, develop and implement plans to continuously elevate the skill level of the team. Lead process change through innovative thinking, process enhancement, and technology introduction. Prepare and rollout team goals, track performance of team and deliver mid-year and end-of-year performance reviews. Provide execution of, and lead, planning/procurement/assembly/test activities for complex equipment and systems throughout the entire product life cycle. Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFMA) activities with the ME and engineering teams. Participate in, and lead, internal and external meetings, such as manufacturability reviews, project tracking, customer reporting, problem solving, continuous improvement, etc. Leading by example, assure compliance and adherence to processes (including internal Business Management System), EHS, industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements. Present and report on status, issues/solutions, improvements, escalate resources needs as required • Provide manufacturing technical leadership on projects as required. Build customer relationships and ensure market alignment. This position requires frequent interaction with internal and external customers, subcontractors, and cross-functional internal teams. Take an active role and responsibility in driving proposal development and review including scope review and estimate preparation as well as technical and product presentations to the customer. Lead proposals as assigned Proposal Estimate Lead (PEL) roles as required. Assist Functional Manager in the review and approval of proposals and estimates. Proactive and timely identification of project risks, analyze solutions, and take decisive action to resolve issues and communicate these to the leadership and/or executive team as required. Provide technical direction/decisions and oversight of manufacturing activities including estimates, item masters, procurement documents, travelers, etc. as required. Short term travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with vendors, customers and stakeholders.        QUALIFICATIONS: B.A.Sc. in an Engineering or a Technical Diploma in an Engineering field. Typically requires 15 years’ experience in manufacturing in Nuclear, Aerospace, Pharmaceutical, Oil and Gas, or other highly-regulated field. Typically requires 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineering, with proven ability to lead complex manufacturing projects and success in a technical leadership. Demonstrated experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics and other project management methodologies. Experience with a broad range of interdisciplinary activities including design, manufacturing, quality assurance. Strong data analysis and computer skills including CAD, MS Office, etc. Excellent written and oral communication skills, and presentation skills understandable by a diverse audience. Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills, strong technical experience and the ability to work in a team. Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignment. Most importantly…. creative and innovative thinkers!   DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:    Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry. Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards. Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards. Experience with Project Management processes and Primavera P6 project management software. The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $87,000 and $135,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
