Manufacturing Operations Manager

Summary
§ The operations manager directs and manages all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, maintenance, quality control, shipping and receiving, and other production-related activities. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Production Performance
§ Coordinate plant activities through planning with other management to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner
§ Responsible for production output, product quality, and on-time shipping
§ Responsible for monitoring overall plant performance for production and quality standards
§ Continually observe inventory levels, identify problems/concerns, speak to staff, monitor production activity, and recognize safety infractions
§ Control and monitor the need for labor overtime
§ Assist with maintaining existing plant facilities and equipment; make recommendations for repairs, replacements, or improvements to plant facilities and equipment when necessary
§ Maintain preventative maintenance programs and implement new programs if needed
§ Incorporate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel
§ Develop production schedules and prioritize incoming orders in most efficient manner to meet scheduled ship date
§ Re-organize production areas as needed to become more efficient
§ Shuffle, move, and organize all production staff to build products in the most efficient manner possible
§ Continually recognize and offer recommendations for improving manufacturing processes to maximize product quality, employee satisfaction, and profit margins
§ Participate in weekly production meetings with management team
Personnel Leadership
§ Provide direction, development, and leadership to production staff
§ Review absentee status daily to determine assignment of personnel.
§ Ensure all staff understands and adheres to OSHA regulations and all company safety requirements
§ Assist management in developing and implementing a training program for all new hires and existing production staff and identify training needs to make sure everyone knows how to do their job
§ Assist with hiring process by conducting interviews and making recommendations for staffing
§ Conduct performance reviews and provide input for pay increases, promotions, terminations, etc.
§ Enforce company policies and procedures
§ Initiate disciplinary actions as necessary with personnel and provide written documentation
Competencies
§ At least five years management/supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
§ Must be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, inventory, and processes related to manufacturing
§ Excellent problem solving, decision-making, and communication skills
§ Thorough understanding of business operations, including cash flow and profitability
§ Be well-composed under pressure and maintain a positive attitude
§ Ability to motivate and retain employees
§ Ability to take ownership and carry out company objectives with minimal supervision
§ Willingness to continually learn and open to feedback for improvement
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
§ This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 6:30-5pm and Fridays, 6:30-3pm (as necessary). Typical work week could vary between 40-48 hours.
