About us



The Royal Lifeboat Institution is a charity that provides an on call, 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service. Our lifeboat crews need a dedicated, professional, and talented team behind them.



The All-weather Lifeboat Centre is the RNLI's in-house, boatbuilding, repair and refit facility located in Poole.



We have a full schedule of Lifeboats in build and refit, in addition to a continuous program of front-line boats coming to us for upkeep and repair. We are seeking an experienced and hard working Marine Electrician to join our team, and assist us in delivery the highest quality of boats to our volunteers enabling them to save lives at sea.

Your role



For this role, you will be an experienced and/or time-served apprentice Marine Electrician, or equivalent. You will undertake the installation, modification, repair/maintenance and diagnostics of electrical and electronic systems, i.e. engine systems, power supplies, charging, rewire, and boat electronic networks and equipment. Working in conjunction with other members of the All-weather Lifeboat Centre, you will ensure that tasks are completed in a structured and professional manner.



The ALC offers a clean, organised and safe work environment, with all tools, materials and PPE provided to enable you to undertake this work.



About you



As an Electrical Technician, you will undertake the installation, modification, repair/maintenance and diagnostics of electrical equipment/systems, i.e. engine systems, power supplies, charging, rewire, and some electronics. Working in conjunction with other members of the All-weather Lifeboat Centre, you will ensure that tasks are completed in a structured and professional manner.



You must be able to work to Engineering drawings and standardised work, safely and efficiently. You will be working as a member of a multi-disciplined team ensuring that lifeboats are built and refitted on time and within budget, meeting the RNLI’s stringent quality standards.



It is essential you have relevant City and Guilds or NVQ level 3/BTEC qualifications, time served apprenticeship or equivalent experience.



Previous experience on the assembly, installation, modification, repair/maintenance, and diagnosis of electrical equipment/systems within the marine environment is desirable.
