Job Summary: This Materials (Summer) Intern works as part of a team in the La Crosse Materials Laboratory supporting and carrying out Engineering projects and materials testing. This is an anticipated 3-month (summer 2021) assignment. Normal workdays are flexible to accommodate student schedules, but typically 40-hours per week, 8-hours per day, Monday - Friday. Approved safety glasses with side shields and shoes with steel covered toe protection are required and will be provided by Trane. Additional PPE based on work activity may be required and provided as well. Responsibilities: Assist Laboratory Technicians and Engineers in part evaluations, failure analysis, preparation of samples, and test plan development. May assist with, maintenance, calibration, and operation of materials laboratory instrumentation, including SEM, EDS, metallography, tensile testing, hardness testing, fatigue testing, NDT equipment, and macro & micro photography. Acquire and prepare testing data. Write technical reports. Draft or improve internal standard operating procedure SOP on lab activities and lab equipment. Work safely; maintain a clean and safe work area in accordance with company policies and procedures. Qualifications: Full-time undergraduate student in Materials Science or Metallurgy in an accredited Bachelor's Degree program. Minimum Sophomore standing at time of application. Salary Information: Base Pay Range: $22.00 - $29.50 per hour Disclaimer – This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of function, class year, and geographic location where the work is performed. Upon starting employment, student will have completed the typical Freshman and Sophomore Engineering classes and corresponding laboratories. Entry-level PC skills are required, including familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. An unofficial copy of your collegiate transcripts may be requested.
