Job Description
The Materials Planner role is intimately familiar with all product and assembly BOMs. This person ensures that the supply of materials meets the production schedule and minimum stock levels to ensure operational and production continuity. Delivers efficient, effective and flexible solutions to meet production requirements. Maintains strong relationships both internally and externally to ensure supply of materials. Provides critical material demand signal that is executed by Procurement team.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedules the supply of materials/components to meet production requirements and minimum safety stock levels
- Develops and utilizes tools and systems to ensure that data is accurate and up to date and resolves any issues as required
- Gleans all relevant information from BOMs to generate a detailed purchasing plan
- Monitors the integrity of Bill of Materials (BOM) and resolves discrepancies with BIM team and Manufacturing
- Understands spend commitments and manages risks to minimize impact on production schedule and company financials, while minimizing obsolete stock
- Assesses volume requirements against planning assumptions and takes follow up actions in relation to material shortages that affect production
- Implements all processes to agreed standards and targets and supports continuous improvement initiatives by identifying areas of improvement
- Monitors inventory levels against agreed target levels
- Creates regular statistical reports and analysis and updates others on material availability status
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to forecast, plan and facilitate on-time materials to the production line when required, avoiding disruption to production
- Generates supplier material delivery demand schedules and makes forecasts available to Purchasing team
- Supports assessment and sourcing of suppliers in conjunction with members of the Purchasing team
- Participates in supplier meetings and negotiations to ensure capacity meets demand for required materials
- Adhere to any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of self, staff and visitors
Location / Hours
On site in Salt Lake City, UT. Day shift, 40 hours per week.
Basic Requirements
- Commitment to work towards professional accreditation with an industry related body
- Previous experience of materials planning ideally in a manufacturing environment
- Good understanding of supply chain processes and their interdependencies
- Strong IT systems knowledge, including advanced Excel skills and Quickbase
- Knowledge and experience of using MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles
- Ability to read technical drawings
Requirements
- AA or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or Operations Management
- Product and Inventory management certification
- APICS CPIM certification
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor CAD software
