Materials Test Engineer

We are seeking a Materials Test Engineer to conduct and oversee material testing and analysis for automotive manufacturing. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating material properties, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and supporting product development through data-driven insights. This role requires expertise in material characterization, testing methodologies, and automotive material requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Testing & Evaluation: Perform mechanical, thermal, and chemical tests on metals, polymers, composites, and coatings to assess performance characteristics.

  • Test Method Development: Design and validate new test methods to improve material assessment accuracy and efficiency.

  • Compliance & Standards: Ensure all testing procedures adhere to ASTM, ISO, SAE, and automotive OEM material specifications.

  • Failure Analysis: Investigate material failures, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Interpret test results, generate technical reports, and present findings to engineering and manufacturing teams.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to support material selection and performance validation.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and calibrate laboratory testing equipment to ensure reliable and repeatable results.

  • Process Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in material testing procedures and workflows.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in material testing within the automotive or manufacturing industry.

  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience with testing techniques such as tensile, impact, hardness, fatigue, DSC, TGA, FTIR, and SEM analysis.

  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with laboratory data acquisition, statistical analysis tools, and material modeling software.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities to identify material-related issues.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to present technical findings effectively.
