Mechanical Design Engineer
Job Description
An exciting opportunity has emerged with our Dunfermline based client for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. Their reputation for in-service quality and reliability spans various products in the maritime industry
The Role
- Undertake detailed mechanical system design for marine applications, primarily ship stabilizers and steering systems.
- Engage in all engineering activities, including requirements analysis, sales support, specification and design, manufacturing support, testing, and ongoing technical support.
- Contribute to new design development and provide support for existing systems.
- Occasional travel for sea-trials, fault diagnosis, and customer support.
- Engineering tasks for ship stabilizers and steering gear.
- Calculations to support contract, design, and class society requirements.
- CAD modelling, drawing generation, and checking.
- Customer requirement analysis and specification.
- Engineering support for sales and estimating.
- Technical procedure and product manual writing.
- Development and testing of new designs and prototypes.
The Candidate
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Proficiency in mechanical component design for steel fabrication and assembly.
- Knowledge of manufacturing procedures, including welding, machine shop, casting, and forging techniques.
- Familiarity with classification society rules.
- Experience in manufacturing drawing generation for a production environment.
- Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems.
- Experience in 3D modelling and 2D design and drafting (PTC Creo 8 and AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of finite element analysis (ANSYS Workbench 2019).
- Working knowledge of Mathcad Prime 8.
- Experience in designing office calculations using various tools and techniques.
- Good computer skills (MS Office, relevant applications).
- Valid EU Passport or other current permission to work in the UK.
