Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer



Location: Newcastle



Salary: Up to £60,000 depending on experience.



Working Hours:



* 37.5-hour week Monday to Friday



* 4.5 working week pattern (early finish on Friday)

Job Description



As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for creating conceptual designs for mechanical and hydraulic machinery. This role involves working on diverse projects that range from initial design to machine commissioning, offering the chance to collaborate with multi-discipline project teams. You will use your expertise in mechanical design, stress analysis, and interfacing with control engineers to ensure high-quality project outcomes.



The Mechanical Design Engineer position also involves involvement in machine testing, trials, and customer visits, offering a truly hands-on experience.



Key Responsibilities:



* Produce conceptual designs and layout designs for mechanical/hydraulic machinery.



* Perform stress and other calculations to support design integrity.



* Collaborate with project teams across mechanical, structural, hydraulic, and maritime disciplines.



* Assist in the build, commissioning, testing, and trials of machines, potentially involving travel abroad.



* Work closely with control and software engineers to ensure smooth machine interfacing.



* Support customer proposals and assist the sales team.



* Provide customer support when needed.



Skills & Experience



We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with the following qualifications and skills:



* A degree in Mechanical Engineering.



* Solid understanding of engineering principles.



* Experience in a design role, preferably working with low-volume, high-specification machines.



* Practical experience in fabrication design and knowledge of geometric tolerances, limits and fits, weld symbols, and surface finish.



* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.



* A proactive, problem-solving mindset, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.



* Enthusiasm for engineering, coupled with a practical, hands-on approach.
