Mechanical (Design) Engineer
Currently there is a need within the business for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team in Rotterdam. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, this individual will be joining a team of four, where they will be responsible for designing bespoke and innovative mechanical components and systems related to DC ‘packet’ switch products. As these products involve power, voltage, and current going through the switch, an understanding of electronics would be beneficial.

They are an industry leader in Low and Medium Voltage circuit breaker retrofit solutions and Industrial DC ‘packet’ switches currently sourcing a Mechanical Engineer in their team.
As a mechanical engineer you play a key role in modernizing engineering processes by developing a configurator and AI aided/ smart engineering tools.
You will be welcomed in a brand new office location at their manufacturing site with the option to work hybrid with some ad-hoc client visits. Overall you can expect a diverse role with leadership potential
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be the architect of innovative mechanical components and systems. Your role involves:
- Design & Analysis: Define, design, and analyze DC ‘packet’ switch solutions
- Customer Engagement: Convert customer requirements into actionable designs
- Project Contribution: Assist in quotations and task list creation
- Creative Solutions: Develop high quality Design for Manufacture (DfM) solutions
- Documentation: Prepare technical project documentation
- Scope Management: Identify and translate scope changes
- Supplier Coordination: Manage technical aspects with external suppliers
Skills / Experience:
- Great with MS Excel: writing Macros, working with Input Tables, reading and interpreting NORMS
- Languages: English (Must), Dutch (nice to have)
- Education: Bachelor's degree is preferred or relevant work experience
- Experience: Proficient in mechanical design and possibly some software development – ideally linked to electrical technologies
- As the individual will be working with Excel and CAD software predominantly in this role, we are looking for someone who enjoys these tasks as part of their position
- Skills: Good skills in CAD software, especially SolidWorks and DriveWorks. Capable of creating a configurator to deliver a 3D model to customers within a day
- Standards Knowledge: Familiar with general industrial standards and regulations (EN 61000-4 is relevant for EMC testing)
- Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Innovation: A proactive approach to challenges and continuous improvements
- Applicants for this position must be eligble to work in the Netherlands
Requirements:
- Mechanical engineering background with a minimum understanding of electronics
- Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks experience would be beneficial, and DriveWorks a nice-to-have)
- Ability to read industry Standards and ‘Norms’ in Excel (for example, EN 61000-4 EMC testing)
