Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a market-leading manufacturer of pump solutions, supporting the design and development of high-quality mechanical systems.

This role offers the chance to work on new product development, improving existing designs, and supporting engineering projects from concept through to production.

The ideal candidate will have a background in mechanical engineering, proven experience in product design for manufacturing, and expertise in Solidworks 3D CAD software.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

* Create and detail mechanical assemblies for electrical and diesel-driven pumps, ensuring designs meet safety, cost, and quality standards.

* Develop castings, machined components, and structural parts, including safety-critical lifting equipment, in line with regulatory requirements.

* Produce technical drawings, bills of materials, and written specifications in accordance with international standards.

* Ensure all designs comply with CE and UKCA Marking Directives and meet industry best practices.

* Take ownership of small to medium-sized engineering projects, managing them from concept to production handover.

* Contribute to new product introduction (NPI) projects, supporting design, testing, and manufacturing phases.

* Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to improve processes and drive cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

* Work closely with production engineering teams to resolve day-to-day design and manufacturing challenges.

* Implement changes to improve productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness in the manufacturing process.

* Support quality control, ensuring deviation requests and concessions are handled efficiently.

* Liaise with suppliers to maintain best practices in component manufacturing.

Skills & Experience Required:

Essential

* Proven experience in a mechanical design engineering role, working on product development in a manufacturing environment.

* Proficiency in 3D CAD software, ideally SolidWorks, and experience with PDM systems.

* Strong knowledge of aluminium and iron castings, sheet metal design, and precision machining.

* Understanding of finite element analysis (FEA), stress calculations, and bearing system design or similar.

* Formal qualifications to HND/HNC or Degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.

* Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail.

* Ability to communicate effectively with project teams, suppliers, and senior management.

Desirable:

* Chartered Engineer status or working towards.

* Experience in fluid dynamics and centrifugal pump design.

* Knowledge of diesel engine 12/24VDC systems.

* Background in heavy machinery, construction, or water industry sectors.

* Familiarity with plastic moulding processes such as rotational, injection, and vacuum forming.
