The Nuclear Fleet Corporate Design Engineering (CDE) department is the Design Authority for six nuclear sites operated by our Nuclear Energy partners. We are responsible for delivering high-quality design solutions that support risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization. The Brunswick (BNP) Nuclear Plant Corporate Design Mechanical Engineering team manages the capital engineering change (EC) portfolio for both Unit 1 and Unit 2. We work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to meet site needs and milestone requirements while maintaining the highest standards of nuclear safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop the scope, technical basis, installation, and testing requirements for mechanical engineering design changes, including systems such as pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, turbines, and HVAC.
- Research and evaluate engineering and design issues to recommend and present effective solutions.
- Provide ongoing support for assigned engineering design changes, including work order reviews, corrective action assignments, and field installation support.
- Develop or revise design specifications, technical requirements, and regulatory documents to support engineering design changes.
- Perform complex engineering calculations related to design changes.
- Develop safety screens and evaluations for engineering design modifications.
- Serve as the Lead Technical Engineer or Responsible Engineer for plant modification projects, ensuring successful implementation in coordination with cross-functional teams and vendors.

- Replacement of Feedwater Heaters
- Installation of Reactor Feed Pump Turbine Lube Oil Sump Vapor Extractor
- Emergency Diesel Generator Overspeed Trip Modification
- Main Steam Isolation Valve Upgrades
- Motor Operated Valve Replacements, and more.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent degree with relevant work experience.
- 15+ years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry, with a strong background in design modification package preparation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility (General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance checks, and compliance with the Fitness for Duty Program).
- Strong oral and written communication skills within a professional environment.
- Proven ability to research engineering issues, evaluate alternatives, and make sound recommendations.
Qualifications:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant or other nuclear sites operated by our partners.
- Familiarity with the 10CFR50.59 regulatory requirements related to nuclear plant modifications.
- Experience using industry-standard design tools such as Passport, Consolidated Asset Suite (CAS), and Nuclear Asset Suite (NAS).
- Previous qualification as a Modification Engineer, Calculation Preparer, or Design Verifier.
