Mechanical Engineer

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.



Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend most of their time (~80%) working on site at AWE Aldermaston.



Package: £29,640- £53,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)



Junior Engineer - £29,640-£42,500



Senior Engineer - £43,500-£53,000

Let us introduce the role



Take a lead role in assessing and constructing a substantiation case for some of the assurances provided by AWE to the MOD and UK government. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



Act as an auditor when evaluating production proposals, ensuring the element of the UK Nuclear Deterrent you are responsible for will fulfil its role.



Evaluate the findings of surveillance activities and provide insight into their implications.



Contribute to the inter-organisation and international relationships that underpin the management and sustainment of an element of the UK Nuclear Deterrent.



Initially this will be a desk-based role. Longer-term, as the team continues to develop, there will be opportunities to participate in exploratory activities, in both technical theory and hands-on.



As your aptitude is demonstrated over time, expect to take a place in the succession plan of this team, with recognised steps in accountability and decision-making authority, and progression into a Suitably Qualified and Experienced Person (SQEP) position.

The management of products, providing support at all phases of the product life cycle (e.g. develop, make, support, retire), but with particular emphasis on production support, in-service support, surveillance, and monitoring of ageing.



Communication through various means including presenting, creating slides packs, authoring technical reports, capturing minutes. Circumstances ranging from in-team to multi-organisation international forums.



Transportation packaging and containers.



Process review and improvement.



Involvement in configuration management and quality assurance, ensuring company outputs meet expectations.



Achieving suitable record management for information requiring long-term traceability.



Handling and appropriate management of classified information.



You'll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines.

Important things you need to know:



You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British who has been in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.
