About the Role
This mechanical engineering position is focused on the development, optimization, and innovation of cold forming processes, including cold heading and deep impact extrusion. The role involves tooling design, process improvement, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support high-efficiency manufacturing and new product development. Ideal candidates will possess a strong mechanical foundation and hands-on experience in metal forming technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop header tooling using blueprints, product drawings, and technical specifications
- Implement and refine cold forming processes such as cold heading and deep impact extrusion
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including design drawings, bills of materials, and specifications
- Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks to develop tooling and assembly designs
- Collaborate with machinists and operators to prototype and validate tooling designs
- Ensure adherence to quality standards related to tolerances, surface finishes, and material properties
- Translate 2D prints into functional tooling that meets customer and product requirements
- Support plating processes and secondary operations associated with cold forming
- Engage in thread rolling, pressing, and machining activities
- Develop multi-die bills of materials for progressive tooling systems
- Participate in product and process quality planning through APQP initiatives
- Use MRP/ERP systems to support production planning and resource management
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- At least 5 years of experience in tooling design and development for cold heading applications
- Proficiency with multi-die, multi-blow progressive cold forming processes
- Familiarity with deep impact extrusion methods
- Strong understanding of GD&T and standard inspection procedures
- Experience operating and working with tool room machinery for die fabrication and assembly
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
Desired Qualifications:
- 1 to 2 years of experience in deep impact extrusion
- Experience working with copper and aluminum in cold forming applications
- Background in secondary metalworking operations including thread rolling and machining
- Exposure to plating processes within metal forming environments
- Experience creating multi-die BOMs for progressive tooling setups
- Knowledge of precision machining, progressive die stamping, or fastener manufacturing
- Experience with APQP methodologies for quality planning
- Familiarity with MRP/ERP software systems
