MC Technical Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join an

energy from waste power station near Knottingley, Yorkshire. This plant processes over 700,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste per year producing around 85MW for the grid, enough to power up to 170,000 homes.

As the Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for all maintenance and engineering aspects associated with the sites mechanical equipment to maintain high plant availability.

As the Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for:

Supervising and managing a small team of Technicians responsible for planned and reactive maintenance work across the site


Promoting general safety within the maintenance department and within the contractors employed by then. This includes the approval of safe systems of work


Ensuring compliance with all statutory inspections ensuring all documentation is complete and up to date – e.g. PSSR, LOLER, PUWER


Working with the EC&I Engineer and Maintenance Manager in the planning and execution of planned and unplanned outages / shutdowns


Using the site CMMS to ensure a strong prioritisation of preventative maintenance


Generating contract scope of works for service contracts and takes part in contract performance reviews with procurement and site management staff


Develop specifications for long term service agreements and maintenance contracts for the site


Managing supervising on site contractors ensuring site compliance at all times

To be considered for this role you should have:

An apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or similar along with an HND/HNC level qualification


Ideally a minimum of 5 years post apprenticeship experience in a mechanical maintenance / engineering function in the power sector or similar – paper mill, steel works, chemical plant etc


Supervisor or Team Leader experience would be advantageous but not essential


A thorough understanding of engineering and maintenance principles associated with rotating and static plant found on an EFW plant including turbines, boilers, pumps, compressors, water treatment plant etc.


A good understanding of power legislation such as PUWER, LOLER, PSSR etc
