Overview / Responsibilities
Wood Environment & Infrastructure is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineering Department Lead to join our dynamic Eastern United States Design Center team with key locations in Kennesaw/Atlanta, GA and Portland, ME. The ideal candidate will have experience leading teams of engineers in HVAC, process piping, plumbing, and energy system design and analysis. The candidate should have leadership experience in a consulting environment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with a multi-discipline group of experienced professionals. The candidate will be responsible for leading, supervising, and growing a group of 15+ mechanical engineers and professionals. The role will also include technical review of mechanical designs, development of design standards, and collaboration with other Design Centers.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise the Mechanical Engineering department
Review and approve timesheets, expense reports, travel and training requests
Perform internal technical review of HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and/or energy designs and reports
Develop design standards and best practices in collaboration with senior engineering staff
Coordinate with Mechanical Engineering department leads from other Design Centers to address resource needs
Coach and mentor department staff
Respond to data requests from upper management regarding resource needs
Ensure department staff have opportunities for technical training and shadowing of senior staff
Serve as engineer of record for projects within scope of expertise
Develop the mechanical portion of proposals including statement of work, assumptions and exclusions, and hour estimates
Present mechanical department capabilities to current and potential clients
Assign mechanical department staff to support projects
Follow company safety standards, site safety standards, and maintain safe workplace practices
Recruiting and retaining talented professionals to grow the team
Responsible for the profitability of the Mechanical Department
Skills / Qualifications
15+ years of engineering experience
10+ years of consulting experiences
Current Professional Engineering license, multi-state registration a plus
HVAC design experience to include calculations, creation of construction drawings and specifications, and review of submittals and RFIs
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Experience leading engineering staff and draftspersons
Proficiency in MS Office suite
Must pass drug test and background check
US Citizenship is required
Valid driver's license
Able to perform physically demanding site work such as standing, walking, and climbing ladders for up to 12 hours per workday while wearing personal protective equipment
Able to be in office up to 3 days/week
Able to travel without limitations up to 25% of time
Preferred
MBA or equivalent master's degree
Project management experience
Supervisory experience in an engineering setting
Client account management experience
Business development experience
Mix of design-bid-build and design-build project experience
