Mechanical Engineering | Physics Internship: Investigation NXE Flow & Temperature

IntroductionAre you a student in Mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, physics, or a related field? Do you have an affinity for doing research? Then this internship could be interesting for you! Background informationWorking as a Manufacturing and Equipment Engineer, your mission is to optimize the reliability, availability, serviceability, and cycle time of precision manufacturing equipment as it moves from the early development phase to operations at international customer sites. You make sure that all work instructions, diagnostics, tools, trainings and spare parts are available for the manufacturing and customer-support operational sectors.Your assignmentThere are 2 available assignments with the team. (See below the assignments and mention in your application your preference.)Assignment 1During a buildup of a system in the factory, several procedures in a row (sequence) are executed. There are currently timings specified for each procedure (A-times). However, for several reasons we see differences in timings and procedures are taking longer (B-times). When this occurs, machines are getting delayed. A deepdive in A and B-times in the factory is already done by the Industrial Architect. We know within NXE Flow & Temperature where the major differences are. But a next step is needed. Therefore for this assignment you will:Find the biggest A and B-time differences (Top 10) and study the procedure/action;Go to the cleanroom during these Top 10 actions and see what is happening;Look for small adaptions which can gain time (quick wins) during your investigation. What are improvements that we can implement right away?Present Top 10 to the project with improvement proposals; If an improvement is accepted and planned by the project, get involved in the design phase and implementation of the solution;Present all the outcomes/report halfway and at the end of your internship.Assignment 2Within ASML there is always high focus on quality. We would like to investigate current quality issues in the factory and the field related to Machine Conditioning. The data is available, but a deep dive is needed to understand the issues. The assignment will contain:Analysis of the TOP X Quality issues (Material Notifications):Take our departments feedback loop and determine the Top X items – this is determined by the quantity of issues (MN’s) per 12NC vs cost of non quality (ConQ) .Take the top 2 or 3 items from that and analyze last years Material Notifications (field & factory).Find buckets (similar issues) in these notifications and determine where design or document improvements would be needed. (if valid split into Factory or Field)Organize gemba walks in the factory, talk with the operators, troubleshoot team and factory engineers about their main issues. After analyzing current data and gathering inputs from field and factory, next steps will be:Look for small adaptions which can gain time/availability (quick wins) during your investigation. What are improvements that we can implement right away?Look for structural improvements (redesign, changing our workinstructions, etc) that we should implement within Machine ConditioningCreate a business case per issue.Discuss the issue with the Machine Conditioning Project Leader and plan/start the improvement. When the improvement proposal is accepted and planned by the project, get involved in the design phase/change and implementation of the solution.Present all the outcomes/report half way and at the end of your internship.Present in the end of your internship a Top 10 to the project with improvement proposals/quick wins. For this assignment you will work together with Quality engineers and Industrialization engineers.Your profileTo be the perfect match for this internship you:Are a student in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics or a related field; Are a bachelor student looking for a graduation project (bachelor thesis) or bachelor/master student looking to gain work experience;Have experience with Microsoft Office applications;Data visualization knowledge is a pre;Have affinity with flow and temperature; Are able to do independent research; Are proactive and are not afraid to go talk to engineerings to get the information you need;Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.Dutch are pre;Other requirements you need to meet:You are available for 4-5 days/ week, and for a duration of 6 months; You are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship; You need to be located in the Netherlands to be perform your internship.
