Forrester is in search of an experienced Estimator specializing in Mechanical, HVAC, and Plumbing systems to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing comprehensive budgets, pre-construction proposals, hard bids, negotiated bids, and design-build proposals. You will also support related trades, including electrical work, and build strong relationships with strategic trade partners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, and determine scopes of work for various budgets, proposals, and bids.
- Collaborate with the Design-Build / Pre-construction Manager on design-build and negotiated projects.
- Prepare estimates by performing detailed takeoffs of scopes of work.
- Coordinate the estimating effort for assigned bids/projects, working closely with the Bid Team.
- Maintain accurate documentation and backup files for estimates.
- Develop and leverage relationships with strategic Mechanical, HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical subcontractors to obtain favorable pricing.
- Evaluate and select strategic partners for each bid based on their capabilities.
- Perform accurate Mechanical, HVAC, and Plumbing estimates for projects ranging from $250K to $5M, including coordinating scope and pricing from electrical bidders.
- Utilize on-screen takeoff (OST) software effectively.
- Interface with owners, A/E, and other contractors to provide cost data and feasibility analysis.
- Facilitate Turn-Over meetings between the Estimating and Operations teams.
- Assist with final price and scope negotiations, and review contract terms with the Project Operations Team.
- Monitor awarded projects as they transition to Operations.
- Support the Chief Estimator in maintaining and growing relationships with subcontractors and vendors.
- Work with the purchasing team to scope and award select subcontract trades.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor or company management.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Thorough knowledge of estimating techniques, engineering disciplines, cost control systems, and accounting.
- Ability to estimate various types of projects/contracts and supervise group efforts.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and work independently.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent technical training and experience.
- At least 10 years of estimating, cost control, or engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in Mechanical, HVAC, and Plumbing estimating.
Skills:
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to respond to inquiries and present information effectively.
Mathematical Skills:
- Proficiency in applying mathematical operations and estimating principles.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to work with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations) and abstract variables.
Physical Demands:
- Regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, and use hands.
- Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, vision, and depth perception
Salary Range: $100,000 - $150,000 annually
