GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Responsible for inspections of plumbing and mechanical systems, including heating, air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration as well as fire protection systems. Specialized inspection work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility in connection with regulating plumbing, heating, refrigeration, air condition, and fire protection installations, alterations, and repair; performed under general supervision but with wide latitude for independent decision in work of routine character.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions or duties described below are the primary functions and duties of the position. There may be other types of work that may be performed, and the omission of a particular duty or function does not exclude that duty or function from the position provided the duty or function is similar in work, related to the work or logically assigned to the position.
- Inspects plumbing, heating, refrigeration and air conditioning and fire protection installations and alterations to assure compliance with pertinent codes and regulations.
- Discusses plans and problems with interested parties and assists.
- Advises and examines more comprehensive plans and offers recommendations to assure proper installations.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School graduate.
- Three (3) years’ experience as a journeyman craftsman in the specialized field, or in an equivalent supervisory capacity.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration and fire prevention installations.
- Thorough knowledge of pertinent codes, regulations and standards for plumbing, heating, air conditioning and fire prevention installations.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications. Ability to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners, installers and the general public.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Connecticut Driver’s License – This job requires daily driving.
- P-1 Unlimited Plumbing License (Required)
- S-1 Heating, Piping and Cooling Unlimited License (Required)
- F-1 Unlimited (Fire Sprinkler) License ()
- State of Connecticut Licensed Mechanical Inspector per Connecticut General Statute 29-262-7b (if not already attained is required to be completed by the end of probationary period)
