POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:
Serve as a core component of the maintenance department and contribute to the success of the business operation. Success includes leading safety efforts to create a safe work environment, providing a Continuous Improvement mindset, and working well in a team environment. Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, inspect, calibrate, install, and support equipment. Systems include hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, overhead traveling cranes, gearboxes, rolls, and power transmission. Support and work as a team with the Electrical Maintenance Technicians and perform additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Near constant standing with frequent walking and occasional sitting.
Occasional below waist level work, climbing, balancing, carrying, reaching over 15” away from the body, reaching above shoulder, fine motor skills, use of forceful motion, and lifting up to 35 lbs.
Minimal foot use, push/pull, and lifting up to 100 lbs.
Ability to meet the physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation, as provided in detail in the Job Analysis Database.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. If you do not have it, we will require that you enroll in our GED Works program.
Three plus years’ industrial maintenance experience or equivalent experience.
Experience in machining, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication, plumbing, power transmission (including bearings, gearing, conveyors, fans, shaft alignment, sprockets and couplings), basic electrical, blue print reading (including interpreting mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics), overhead cranes and troubleshooting/repair.
Experience and proficient use of maintenance equipment and tools including metal working, drill presses, saws, and grinders.
Demonstrated industry standard rigging and lifting procedures.
Ability to operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, pendant and overhead traveling cranes, and aerial lift platforms in a safe and professional manner.
Ability to use a wide range of precision measuring tools including, but not limited to, micrometers and calipers.
Ability to use technical manuals/catalogs to reference replacement parts.
Demonstrated good housekeeping practices and 5S principles.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
Basic math skills.
Good reading skills and basic communication skills.
Ability to follow and give instructions.
Good problem solving skills.
Demonstrated commitment to safe working behaviors including lockout, fall protection, confined space, and mobile equipment operation.
Proficient computer skills to receive/close work orders and use email.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship, Journeyman Certification, or equivalent work experience.
Welding experience (SMAW, MIG and/or TIG).
Fabrication experience.
Steel industry experience.
Basic understanding of electrical drives.
Strong communication skills.
Safety awareness training.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Troubleshoot and repair specific plant equipment.
Analyze test results, machine error messages, and information obtained from operators to diagnose and perform repairs.
Perform preventative maintenance (PM), troubleshooting, inspection, calibration, installation, and all necessary support of equipment.
Support and work as a team with the Electrical Maintenance Technicians.
Support parts inventory system accuracy.
Create new parts with use of available machining centers.
Perform miscellaneous plant duties as instructed by the supervisor.
Follow and comply with all safety and work rules.
Follow Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures and requirements.
Mechanical maintenance technicians will be expected to preform their duties in all parts of the mill

POSITION CHALLENGES:
12 hour shift

Most positions start on night shift
Ability to work in various areas of the mill that include adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, grease, hot, cold, and extreme heights.
