Medical Physicist - Nuclear Medicine

JOB DESCRIPTION The role of a Medical Physicist directly involves the quality, safety, and regulatory compliance of medical imaging modalities. The quality and safety aspect can be divided into the following three areas: acceptance testing of imaging modalities to ensure patient safety and image quality, (b) periodic evaluation of imaging modalities to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, and (c) evaluation after major repairs/service of imaging equipment to ensure patient safety and image quality. RESPONSIBILITIES To sit as a member on any committee to which being nominated. To determine radiation doses for various radiologic procedures To perform on call according to operational needs. May be required to write policies and procedures for the department of medical physics. Provides in-service training for Physicians, radiographers, technicians and nursing staff. May be required to assist in the quality assurance of diagnostic radiology equipment. Will be required to perform quality assurance surveys of diagnostic radiology equipment and Nuclear medicine and MRI To perform radiation protection surveys of both diagnostic and Nuclear Medicine installations. To perform shielding barrier calculations for diagnostic radiology To assist with the monitoring of doses to personnel using personal systems To perform diagnostic QC tests on digital radiography units and digital mammography units To measure patient doses for diagnostic radiology procedures To estimate the radiation dose received by the patient as well as ways to keep the radiation dose to the workers as low as possible. To have experience in image reconstruction and data analysis. To assist in determining the optimal approaches to be used for processing different types of nuclear medicine studies Accountabilities Prepares reports to ensure safe use of ionizing radiation within the hospital. Performs the quality assurance tests on linear accelerators at weekly, monthly and annual intervals and generates reports as required by the medical physicists. To prepare reports of work carried out relating to the work carried out in the department and other reports as they may relate to the safe use of ionizing radiation within the hospital. QUALIFICATIONS Experience :- Required: Upon completion of Internship. Desired: N.A. Educational Qualification: Required: BSc degree in Physical Science from an accredited program or equivalent.
