JOB SUMMARY:

The Electrician performs electrical wiring duties in a job site setting with relatively little supervision. This position will read blueprints, coordinate and set up large cable pulls, install switchgear, distribution panels, transformers, and other electrical gear, as well as perform other electrical duties related to general construction operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform skilled labor duties related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment including but not limited to:

  • Reading and interpreting architect blueprints, circuit diagrams, and other technical documents.
  • Measure, cut, and bend wire and conduit using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • To ensure proper functionality, assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical components, equipment, and systems with precision and safety. Tasks may require working at heights from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, or roofs, emphasizing the importance of proper techniques and safety protocols to complete work.
  • Assemble temporary equipment or structures.
  • Rough in and Trim out.
  • Drill holes and pull or push wiring through openings using hand and power tools.
  • Bend large conduit with mechanical or hydraulic benders.
  • Install conduit, pipes, or tubing in various locations, including overhead spaces, within walls, or other concealed areas.
  • Pull insulated wires or cables through the conduits or ducts to complete circuits between boxes, equipment, gear, fixtures, etc.
  • Install low voltage systems, electronic fire alarm systems, pull stations, strobes, horns, detectors, and other related building system products.
  • Install and connect various types of light fixtures, light fixture components, exit signs, switches, receptacles, and devices.
  • Construct or fabricate parts using hand or power tools, according to specifications.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduits and moving or lifting heavy objects.
  • Examine electrical components for loose connections and broken insulation and tighten connections using hand or power tools.
  • Disassemble defective electrical equipment, replace defective or worn parts and reassemble equipment using hand or power tools.
  • Direct workflow of employees with less experience and help if needed.
  • Advise management immediately when continuing operation of work or equipment could be hazardous.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and reporting violations of policies, procedures, and guidelines to the immediate supervisor.
  • Receive and deliver material to employees.
  • Perform all clean-up tasks assigned.
  • Consistently update job-related knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including job sites and tool inventory.
  • Perform advanced electrical and low voltage system duties, assisting more experienced employees.
  • Perform trenching and excavating duties, as well as install underground conduit as needed.
  • Saw, drill, and cut as needed.
  • Mastery of knowledge and identification of materials.
  • Measure voltage, amperage, and resistance using analog and digital meters.
  • Erect electrical system components and barricades, and rig scaffolds, hoists, and shoring.
  • Install various types of raceway and cable tray systems.
  • Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
  • Splice and terminate wires at junction points.
  • Effectively troubleshoot, identify, and fix electrical wiring and installation issues.
  • Perform basic motor control wiring.
  • Layout electrical work.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations (e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, order of operations)
  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in the English at a 12th-grade level
  • Must possess a minimum of four (4) years of electrical experience
  • Must have strong knowledge of Electrical Codes with the ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Mastery of conduit fill, derating, and box fill to meet NEC requirements for installations

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bilingual
  • Active Florida Master Electrician License
  • OSHA 10
  • Completion of an indentured apprenticeship program

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This job operates in a construction job site environment and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions or inside conditions.
  • While performing this job's duties, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The employee may be occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites.
  • Often exposed to loud sounds and noise levels as well as very bright or inadequate lighting conditions. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • Regular exposure to dirt, hazardous equipment, wiring, and underground and/or elevated heights.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.
  • Ability to wear company-approved Personal Protective Equipment per local, state, federal, or OSHA regulations.
  • The employee must frequently lift and move items over 50 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to perform physical duties listed above for extended periods.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

SCHEDULE AND REQUIRED TRAVEL:

  • Requires the ability to report to job sites throughout Florida; locations vary depending on the individual's home location.
  • May be requested to work overtime, nights, and weekends.
