Naval Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES & MAIN TASKS To ensure that the Company Marine Unit’s hulls (and hull appendixes), pump/engine rooms structures and outboard openings are prepared and maintained in a good and reliable condition by the most economical combination of investment and maintenance throughout the projected lifetime, taking into account specific site and contract conditions. Ensures that a hull maintenance database is set up and up to date and coordinate structural input as required Maintain up-to-date hull maintenance databases for all units and work with the classification society to improve functionality. Highlight corrosion trends, re-occurring damages, etc. Prepares a 5-year inspection plan and follow up the actual status. Develops and maintains record of Hull compartments preservation method(s). Analyze efficiency of methods used. Elaborates inspection specifications and liaises with Class to obtain approval. Prepares repair specifications and follow-up repairs. Maintain register of typical repair procedures, including those qualifying as ‘temporary’. Liaises with vendors and Class to ensure alignment and optimization of the inspection and repair specifications. Coordinate the inspection of the hull compartments with the vendor, including mobilization and review of progress, reporting and technical queries. Assist in preparation of responses to offshore queries relevant to the discipline. Assist in technical decisions regards to Hull structure. Travels to the offshore units as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS Specific skills / expertise / product: Degree in Naval Engineering/Architecture. Minimum 5 years’ experience in inspection of hull and specification of repairs. Familiar with statutory requirements such as Marpol, Solas as well as Classification Society requirements for FPSO’s. Familiarity with oil tankers construction is beneficial. Office package (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF and others). Fluent English mandatory, Portuguese proficiency desired. Willingness to obtain BOSIET certification and travel to offshore FPSOs, what will be a mandatory factor in the probation period.
