POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for coordinating and supervising the overall function of the Nuclear Medicine Department. Maintains federal and state regulations governing hospital's radioactive material license.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Handles individual problems regarding staff, morale, procedures, salary adjustments, safety, and discipline under the guidance of the Director.
- Manages departmental in-service program and keeps track of attendance and topics covered.
- Conducts regular staff meetings (huddles).
- Handles the interviewing and hiring process for all supervised employees under the guidance of the Director.
- Prepares and reviews employee performance assessments with guidance of the Director.
- Attends Hospital Committee meetings as needed.
- Creates and organizes work schedules and assigns personnel accordingly.
- Ensures adequate staffing to cover absences, time off (vacation, sick, holiday), and Leave of Absence (LOA).
- Handles administrative tasks of the department, including preparation and development of budgets, reports, documents, payroll records, and statistical surveys, and submits them on time to Administration or other agencies.
- Manages inventory of technical supplies and coordinates purchasing and inventory control with materials management.
- Stays updated on new procedures, equipment, and methods, and participates in their evaluation and use in departmental operations.
- Applies -related knowledge of growth and development as appropriate for the patient population.
- Arranges for preventive maintenance, quality assurance testing, and repair of imaging and related equipment in coordination with other Imaging staff.
- Keeps practicing Nuclear Medicine skills current and seeks professional growth and development to create a positive and progressive Imaging department.
- Assists Physicians in all procedure-related aspects in their assigned area.
- Ensures patient safety and provides a positive experience.
- Accurately enters patient data into computer systems.
- Checks images and patient information for accuracy before sending to PACs.
- Performs Nuclear Medicine studies for at least 50% of their work time.
- Serves as a mentor and teacher for new staff and students.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Director.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Possesses empathy, emotional stability, strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and most importantly, a genuine concern for the well-being of the patient and staff.
- The ability to mentor and coach staff is essential.
- Excellent time management, organizational abilities, and the capacity to work both independently and as part of a team are crucial.
- It is necessary to learn how to operate various office, computer, and nuclear equipment.
- The ability to handle a large volume of patients in a fast-paced environment.
- Being able to convey technical information to the public.
- Providing outstanding customer service.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:
- Education: Associates Degree or a Bachelors in Nuclear Medicine Technology ().
- Experience (Type & Length): Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Registered Technologist in Nuclear Medicine in a general acute-care hospital.
- License/Certification: ARRT(NM) and/or NMTCB.
- Must have a current license as a Certified Radiologic Technologist with the state of Florida.
- BLS (CPR) Certification (Required) from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Must clear background and drug test required.
