Job Description
GST is actively seeking a Radiation Safety Specialist in support of our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) customer working full-time at the FAA Technical Center at the Atlantic City Airport.
Manages and operates the TSL radiation safety program. Provides support to TSL’s Laser Safety Officer and manages the TSL Laser Safety Program. The Contractor shall support product area and technology leads in testing the equipment in the TSL laboratories. The Radiation Specialist shall be knowledgeable of all current OSHA and NRC requirements for safe levels of radiation accumulated annually. Manage significant hazards which exist at the TSL due to the nature of the work performed.
Requirements
Radiation Safety Specialist responsible for the following aspects of TSL’s safety program, but not limited to:
- Conducts radiation surveys of radiation generating devices to ensure within safe limits.
- Provide radiation survey reports to keeps the employees and management informed of the evaluation results.
- Maintains radiation and equipment records.
- Issue dosimeters to be worn by personnel working in the labs and will collect them regularly for evaluation of dosage received by each individual.
- Maintains current Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) required physical inventory to account for sources and/or devices received, shipped, and possessed by the TSL.
- Research, prepare and submit purchase card requests for the Safety Office.
- Write and review TSL safety documents and SHEMs related materials.
- Provides administrative assistance under the direction of the Environmental Health and Safety Team Lead as needed.
- Maintain all NRC record keeping requirements.
- Assist the EHS Specialist and the TSL Safety Officer in any aspect of the TSL’s safety program.
Requirements
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Associate’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or similar industrial field.
- 5 years’ experience in the field of radiation within the framework of Health and Safety regulatory requirements.
- Professional with ability to perform personnel training, technical monitoring, and analysis.
- Possesses applicable OSHA certifications for radiation safety management.
- Proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office Suite products, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat products.
- Current or ability to obtain Secret Security Clearance and DHS Suitability.
- US Citizen
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Bachelor’s Degree in either a business, technical or engineering field
- Experience with X-ray Screening Systems.
- Safety Health and Environmental Management Experience
- Hazard Material Handling Experience
- Radiation or Laser Safety Experience
- A military background or familiarization, as well as an understanding of Explosive / Hazardous Materials subject matter is advantageous.
