Nuclear Remote System Engineering Department Manager

Idaho Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Remote System Engineering Department Manager to work in our Hot Fuel Examination Facility (HFEF) Nuclear Remote System Engineering department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our MFC facility with every Friday off. The HFEF Nuclear Remote System Engineering Department Manager provides managerial leadership and technical expertise to support engineering staff that execute designs of research-relevant remotely operated instrumentation and equipment for Post Irradiation Examination of irradiated nuclear reactor fuels and components in a hot cell environment. Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage the activities of a department or a discipline through subordinate supervisors, exempt and non-exempt staff to ensure tasks completed are both aligned with organizational goals and empowering to the employees.
  • Track progress and adjust plans to maximize talent deployment and development.
  • Provide guidance to your team within the latitude of established company policies, supporting best practices
  • Recommend changes to policies and establish procedures that affect department or multiple disciplines through monitoring and evaluations that lead to improvement implementation
  • Responsible for the effective operation of activities of major significance to our organization. Decisions impact others in the immediate team and influences methods and techniques.
  • Coordinate complex research priorities with other research supervisors within the facility to ensure expected timelines are met
  • Work with subordinate supervisors, customers, and functional peer group professionals, involving matters between sections and multiple units to build effective and collaborative teams.
  • Receive objective-based assignments and determine resources to meet schedules and goals. Ensure that those resources are integrated in the resource-loaded facility mission schedule.
  • Help develop overall goals and long-term goals of the department and help set the division goals.
  • Partner with important contacts outside own area of expertise and other external partners.
  • You will typically report to a direct report of a Director, Sr. Director, or Senior Leadership.

Qualifications: Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree and 8 years of relevant experience, Master's of Science degree and 6 years of relevant experience, or Doctorate and 4 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, nuclear engineering, or directly related engineering field from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Willing to coach others in their career plan development
  • Ability to qualify and maintain "Nuclear Facility Tech Staff Engineer" qualification, per DOE Order 420.1C
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Department of Energy Nuclear Facility Operations and Hot Cell Experience
  • Electromechanical Design & Drafting Experience
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, GD&T
  • Knowledgeable with Creo Parametric 3D Modeling Software
  • Experience Managing or Supervising Diverse Staff
  • Asset Suite and Configuration Management Experience

Job Information:

  • The target pay range for this position is $150,672 - $222,078 annually. The full pay range is $103,032 - $262,740. At Idaho Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • You are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing and contributing to an inclusive working environment.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
