Our subsidiary in the United Kingdom, Merrick and Company UK Ltd (Merrick UK), focuses on design, engineering, and operations consulting to find the right solutions to fit our clients’ needs.
The Nuclear Services & Technology (NST) Business Unit consists of highly trained and motivated professionals providing expertise in the design and engineering of process equipment and nuclear facilities for defence programs, research and development of radioactive materials, non-reactor nuclear facility structures, systems, and components, nuclear reactor specialty systems, and nuclear material production facilities. Recognizing that there is a revitalization of nuclear infrastructure (R&D, Medical, Power, etc.) in the UK and European Union (EU), NST is expanding our capabilities to provide necessary and urgent engineering services in the UK.
It is anticipated that the NST Director will be a full-time telecommuter working from their home office until a corporate office is established in proximity to key client projects. The director will be compensated per corporate policy for travel to / from client meetings, engagements, conferences, and other events in the UK, EU, and USA.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Merrick UK is seeking a highly motivated, experienced manager to be our Nuclear Services & Technology Director. The director will recruit, cultivate, and lead a team of professionals to win key projects in the nuclear defence, research and development (R&D), medical isotope, and advanced nuclear reactors markets within the UK. The director will be responsible for both operational performance of the key projects to deliver quality services and growing the business. It is anticipated that two-thirds of the director’s time, initially, will be focused on business development and outreach initiatives with the balance establishing a regional office and team in proximity to key clients. This director will report to NST’s Business Unit Leader located in the United States.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Cooperatively develop, implement, and execute a business strategy focused on our Nuclear Services and Technology Business Unit service offering.
Communicate and educate our NST leadership on targeted UK clients’ processes and business strategies.
Provide focused market analysis to develop targeted alignment of corporate capabilities for regional growth opportunities. This would include client visits, industry conferences, and forum attendance, etc.
Support Business Development (BD) activities including preparation of proposals, market engagements, and client development.
Develop and grow a Merrick UK presence. This includes working with our Human Resources Department and internal NST stakeholders to locate qualified personnel and assist with their on-boarding to the Merrick UK organisation.
Establish a Merrick UK office in proximity to key client projects.
Identify and cultivate key relationships with targeted clients.
Direct technical teams and serve as the primary interface with clients, project controls, procurement professionals, and senior management.
Serve as a point of contact with the customer.
Negotiate scope.
Establish project cost estimates and schedules.
Develop project plans.
Effectively manage medium to large sized multi-disciplinary projects, including monitoring and controlling scope, schedule, cost, quality, and day to day project activities.
Execute projects per the project plans, manage change, and ensure technical adequacy of the project deliverables.
Responsible for implementing internal accounting and record keeping practices.
Reviews design documents for conformance to company standards and compliance with client’s scope of work.
Accountable for financial performance of projects in alignment with strategic objectives and project-specific targets including gross margin.
Prepare and control external communication and invoices.
Provide accurate revenue recognition, earned value, and similar reporting to senior management.
Provide project planning, scoping, and development.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Engineering.
Demonstrated experience in technical consulting and coordination for multi-discipline technical projects.
Demonstrated experience of at least fifteen (15) years with UK Defence Programmes such as the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Defence Nuclear Organization (DNO), or Ministry of Defence (MOD).
Demonstrated experience establishing and sustaining client relationships.
Demonstrated experience developing and communicating a clear vision/strategy and fostering a culture of collaboration across multi-discipline technical project teams.
Proven technical writing experience and capability to assist in writing, reviewing, coordinating, and revising technical studies and business development proposal documents.
Proficiency with MS Office, MS Teams, and MS Project with ability to analyse and produce performance metrics.
Client projects require British citizenship.
The ability to travel to client sites and business development events throughout the UK.
Applicants must be eligible to hold trusted positions and pass client background checks. Clear Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Be a Chartered Engineer.
Ability to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance if required by clients.
Formal professional qualification in a relevant Project/Programme Discipline, such as PMBOK/PMP or Prince2 Practitioner.
