Offshore Engineer
Roles and responsibilities We are looking for Senior Electrical Engineers PMC roles with Offshore experience to be based in Abu Dhabi. Skill & Experience Minimum 15+ years of oil & gas experience. Experience in Feasibility, Concept, FEED, Design. Minimum 8 Years’ Experience In Gas Processing/Onshore Projects Minimum 5 years’ experience in PMC projects Bachelor’s degree Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university Proficiency in MS Office & MS Project. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. Electrical System Design and Engineering Lead the design of electrical systems for offshore platforms, rigs, or vessels, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Design electrical power generation, distribution, and control systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, and distribution panels. Develop detailed electrical drawings, diagrams, and specifications using design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, or other electrical design tools). Select appropriate electrical equipment and components, ensuring they are rated for offshore environments (e.g., hazardous areas, corrosive atmospheres). Offshore Electrical Installation and Commissioning Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems on offshore platforms, ensuring that installations meet design specifications and industry standards. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure that electrical work is completed on time and within budget. Supervise offshore electrical installation teams and contractors, providing technical guidance and support throughout the process. Conduct quality checks and inspections to ensure the integrity of electrical systems, minimizing downtime and preventing system failures. Maintenance and Troubleshooting Develop and implement maintenance strategies for offshore electrical systems, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Monitor the performance of electrical systems and equipment, identifying potential issues before they cause failures. Troubleshoot electrical faults and failures on offshore platforms, providing on-site technical support and guidance to operational teams. Ensure that maintenance activities are carried out according to established procedures and safety standards. Project Management and Coordination Lead electrical engineering teams in offshore projects, managing timelines, budgets, and resources. Coordinate the electrical engineering aspects of offshore projects, ensuring that electrical designs integrate smoothly with other disciplines (e.g., mechanical, structural, and instrumentation). Provide technical support to project managers and clients, ensuring that electrical designs meet both operational and regulatory requirements. Prepare project documentation, including progress reports, technical specifications, and design modifications. Compliance and Safety Standards Ensure that all electrical systems comply with offshore safety standards, regulations, and codes, including IEC, NEC, ATEX, and NEMA. Conduct risk assessments (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA) to identify electrical hazards and develop mitigation strategies. Implement electrical safety protocols, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, electrical isolation, and emergency shutdown systems. Monitor offshore safety practices to ensure that electrical systems are safe for personnel and equipment. Energy Management and Optimization Oversee the optimization of electrical energy use on offshore platforms, ensuring efficient energy distribution and minimizing wastage. Implement energy-saving initiatives, such as upgrading electrical equipment, improving power factor, and optimizing load management. Monitor electrical consumption, analyze energy performance, and recommend strategies for improving energy efficiency. Offshore Environmental and Hazardous Area Management Design electrical systems that are suitable for offshore environments, which often include harsh weather conditions, corrosive environments, and explosive atmospheres. Ensure that electrical installations are compliant with hazardous area classifications, such as those defined by IECEx or ATEX for explosive gas atmospheres. Select and specify explosion-proof electrical equipment and ensure proper certification and installation in hazardous zones. Desired candidate profile Electrical Engineering Expertise Advanced knowledge of electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, control, and instrumentation. Expertise in offshore electrical installations and equipment, such as transformers, switchgear, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and emergency power systems (e.g., UPS and backup generators). Familiarity with offshore-specific challenges, such as corrosive environments, high humidity, and explosive atmospheres. Design and Software Proficiency Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, MATLAB, or PSpice) for creating schematics, single-line diagrams, and detailed electrical layouts. Knowledge of electrical load calculations, fault analysis, and protection systems for both onshore and offshore applications. Familiarity with offshore-specific codes and standards, including IEC, NEC, ATEX, and NEMA. Project Management and Coordination Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, organize, and execute electrical engineering tasks within the framework of larger offshore projects. Ability to manage budgets, resources, and timelines effectively, ensuring that electrical work is completed on schedule and within budget. Experience coordinating with cross-disciplinary teams, including mechanical, structural, and instrumentation engineers, as well as offshore operational staff. Safety and Regulatory Compliance In-depth understanding of offshore safety standards, electrical safety protocols, and relevant international codes and regulations (e.g., IECEx, ATEX). Ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and hazard analysis specific to electrical systems in offshore environments. Expertise in designing electrical systems for hazardous areas and ensuring compliance with explosion protection standards. Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve electrical issues quickly and efficiently in offshore environments. Experience with fault finding in electrical systems, including control systems, power generation, and distribution networks. Ability to develop innovative solutions to electrical challenges, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance. Leadership and Mentorship Proven leadership skills, including managing offshore engineering teams and providing technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians. Ability to foster a collaborative team environment and mentor team members to develop their skills and careers. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders, project managers, and clients.
