About Phase3D: Phase3D is at the forefront of metal 3D printing (Additive Manufacturing, AM) real-time quality inspection and certification. We are commercializing a computer vision technology which performs in-situ monitoring for industrial AM. This technology dramatically changes the metal AM industry by providing immediate component certification and early cancellation of defective builds.
The Phase3D headquarters is in Chicago, located 5 miles from the Chicago Loop. We work closely with federal scientists and engineers to develop machine vision technology for additive manufacturing (camera and software based). We have established sales to aerospace component customers, US labs, NASA, the Air Force, etc. – the top players in the AM industry.
About Phase3D Culture: Phase3D is comprised of independent thinkers, working to solve challenges in software development, data analysis, mechatronics, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. We are a cross-disciplined group and are excited to be pioneers in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence and machine learning for 3D printing. This means a lot of variability of workflow and responsibilities, with an emphasis on creative problem solving. The candidate will have the chance to be a part of a team making headlines in the 3D printing world.
About the Role: We are looking for a candidate with a well-rounded set of skills to support Phase3D’s Operations and product ruggedization. The role will be a mix of Operations Management and Product Engineering. This role will incorporate a mix of fast paced operations work, hardware engineering and installation work, data analysis, and may include some travel to 3D printing sites such as NASA, the US Air Force, DOE labs. We are looking for someone to own Phase3D’s operations to mature the readiness level of Phase3D technology.
Operations Engineering
· On-site management of sensor system manufacturing
· Inventory control
· Improving processes such as sensor design and manufacturing
· Travel up to 25% (enforced maximum) in first year of role
· Remote system maintenance
· Developing written standard operating procedures
· Managing milestone delivery for large programs
Project Engineering
· Building sensor packages and basic circuitry
· In-house research and development of sensor optics improvements
· Establishment and management of outsourced circuit prototyping
· Scheduling and performing training customers to use the system
Minimum Education / Certification Requirements
· Small team leadership and contribution
· 5+ years experience in product development or operational engineering focused roles
· Education and/or industrial experience related to manufacturing, technology, computer science, etc.
· Logical problem-solving skills
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, fluent in writing and speaking English
· Strong organizational and time management skills
Desired Job Requirements
· Experience scaling up products from prototypes to production
· Prototyping-to-production electrical engineering experience with microcontrollers
· Can-do attitude and resilience in troubleshooting issues with customers and installations
· Experience in personal projects to further develop engineering skills and background
· Willingness to learn, be flexible, and have fun!
Work Location
· Hybrid and flexible options available, but required to be present in Chicago, IL for 4+ days per week.

First Six Months: Within the first six months, the candidate will be onboarded, become AM metals customer segment literate, and exercise mastery over the commercial value-add and technical specifications of the Project Fringe monitoring system. These goals can be accomplished via 3 main stages.
Month 1
· Understand Phase3D core technologies, technology roadmap, and business strategy
· Socialize with the cross-functional team, understanding each person’s area of expertise and skills spanning the hardware, software, and product installation activities
· Understand how Phase3D monitoring provides value to research, additive equipment manufacturers, and contract manufacturers
· Get hands on with the technology, learn how to install and calibrate the system, learn how heightmap readings predict and identify build defects
Months 2-3
· Build sensor packages
· Control inventory system
· Lead delivery planning and scheduling
· Lead the technical support and non-conformance register
· Remote technical support for customers
· Identify process improvements to engineering operations
Months 3-6
· Deliver sensor packages to customers
· Lead the daily sync for continuous improvements to sensor manufacturing
· Manage organizational improvements
· Establish Quality system per AS9100
