About Gene’s Towing Culture:
Gene’s Towing started in 1961, a year after Gene Myers purchased and re-opened a boarded-up service station located on what used to be US Hwy 99 (South Tacoma Way) South of Tacoma. Today, 63 years later, Gene’s Towing operates from four different locations, Lakewood, Tacoma, Puyallup & Federal Way. Gene’s Towing employees 30-40 service minded employees that take care of all of our customers’ needs from basic towing services to highly technical recoveries of trucks and equipment.

What you will need to succeed as an Operations Manager
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in operations or business management, or 4 years of related work in experience in Transportation, Distribution, or Logistics
- Knowledge of the Transportation industry, hazardous materials regulations, DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations
- Availability 24 hours a day (for emergent questions)
- Efficiency in Outlook, Word and Excel
- Positive attitude with the ability to multitask and motivate the Team
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and administrative skills
Minimum qualifications:
- 2 years of related work experience in a warehouse, distribution, supply chain, transportation or similar environment
- 2 years of Supervisory experience of at least 25 plus employees in Transportation/Logistics environment
What you'll do on a typical day:
- Work with Management in all aspects of operations
- Lead and supervise all aspects of Towing operations. To include Drivers, Yard Tech, CSR’s and Dispatch
- Develop and implement strategic work procedures to meet the evolving demands of each department
- Evaluate, manage, assign and supervise workloads and tasks
- Supervise hourly staff across various locations and act as the primary point of contact to Staff that you manage
- Efficiently complete Driver and Yard Tech schedules to meet daily operations needs
- Enforce all company, FMCSA, OSHA, CCMTA, NSC and DOT policies, rules, regulations, and laws
- Assist Managers in implementation for all applicable workplace policies and procedures and enforce compliance to optimize performance
- Ensure customer vehicles are processed, handled, loaded and delivered timely and damage free
- Work with HR Manager to Coach and develop employees on proper techniques and quality requirements, including conducting employee evaluations and determining whether to issue corrective action for violations of Gene's workplace policies
- Effectively direct a team to consistently meet or exceed operation goals
- Make recommendations regarding hiring, suspension and termination
- Develop and present action plans to improve operations flow
- Participate in internal safety committees
- Train employees on safety rules and processes
- Inspect working conditions of tools and equipment needed for safe operation within the workplace and direct the correction of any improper or adverse conditions that exist
- Provide instruction, analyses, suggestions and ideas for improvement of operations
- Act as a champion of Gene’s values by demonstrating them and holding your team to the same high standards
- Availability to participate in weekend Gene’s Towing community events such as Touch-a-Truck, Buckley Log Show etc.
Towing Operations Supervisors are required to:
- Lift objects of various shapes, sizes and weights occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
- Walk and stand for extended periods in the yard or on a scene that is not climate controlled
- Work outside in inclement weather often
