Position Summary:
The Operations Manager is responsible for taking a product idea through the required stages of product development to a final stage of product production by utilizing standardized process management practices to optimize product time-to-market while minimizing cost and maximizing efficiency.
Responsibilities:
- Directs and manages plant operations for production, including the areas of Compression, VTL, Winding, Machining, Sawing and Grinding.
- Develops detailed planned production schedules for all production assets based on the master schedule/capacity plan. Ensures production is efficiently scheduled by department with flexibility to adapt as needed for the customer.
- Works closely with Supply Chain and Sales to identify and recommend/implement required schedule adjustments based on expected completion dates.
- Oversees safety program including facilitating monthly safety meetings, enforce safety regulations, drug-free program, and ensure proper training for employees.
- Shares the responsibility of personnel including training, scheduling, counseling, performance appraisals, hiring decisions, disciplinary actions and pay recommendations.
- Trains new employees on usage of all equipment pertaining to plant procedures.
- Together with senior management, develop a new product development project plan and timeline as the basis for ideating, scheduling and prioritizing the inputs and resources necessary to meet go-t-market deadlines.
- Recommend product line extension options and together with Sales and senior management assess the viability and potential market penetration for new product ideas for the purpose of creating accurate ROI analysis.
- Integrate product and process innovation into ongoing plant operations, quality control and other existing departments by actively collaborating with peers to enhance manufacturability, testability, affordability, reliability and maintainability.
- Oversee efforts to start initial production of parts and manufacturing methods that may be new to the company. This potentially includes purchase of equipment, tooling and software.
- Identify and suggest ways to improve production output, capacity, and quality.
- Utilize SAP and other sources to ensure raw material usage and other metrics are effectively captured in total plant operations.
- Communicate regularly with staff, peers, and senior management regarding production, staffing, equipment and other significant topics.
- Work with executive team on capital expenditure projects to ensure on time delivery and installation. Participate in strategic planning, CapEX and annual budgeting processes.
- Other duties as required.
Education & Experience:
- At least 10 years' progressive experience in plant and production operations and management in a minimum US $25=million high volume manufacturing environment.
- Specific experience in machining and CNC operations.
- Specific experience in injection molding and extrusion of thick wall HDPE fittings desired but not required.
- Experience in SAP or other ERP systems as the foundation for directing the manufacturing operations to meet required production, scheduling and completion metrics.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven success in implementing continuous improvement projects throughout the plant.
- Qualified experience setting up or adding automation to facilities or production lines.
- Experienced in using MRP/ERP software as the means to manage operations.
- Can draw, read, and understand technical engineered drawing as needed.
- Excellent communicator; Spanish a strong preference.
- Ability to develop, motivate and lead professional teams.
