The Operations Manager position directly supervises employees in the manufacturing department. This individual is responsible for managing up to 75 production workers in various work centers in the shop through Warehouse, Production and HSQE Supervisors. The work performed in these work centers consist of punching, packing, roll forming, powder coating, curving and cutting, - The Operations Manager is also responsible -for leading the Planning Department., The Operations Manager reports to - the Director of Operations.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises HSQE, Inventory/Warehouse and Production Supervisors
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of employees engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of products.
  • Recruits, selects, trains, assigns, schedules, coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees.
  • Communicates job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions.
  • Contributes operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends.
  • Oversees and schedules SIOP meetings to reduce fluctuations in productivity and level load the production floor
  • Develops operations systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce, and evaluate policies and procedures; develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization, inventory management, and shipping.
  • Analyzes and improves organizational process and workflow, employee and space requirements, and equipment layout; implement changes.
  • Maintains safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Ensures that all employees adhere to safety protocols and models expected behavior. Accomplishes operations and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Meets or exceeds operations labor budget expectations.
  • Manages staff levels, wages, hours, contract labor to revenues.
  • Communicates customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints.
  • Works closely with the Director of Operations and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems and to follow through with implementation.
  • Communicates all operating policies and/or issues at department meetings.
  • Works closely with the Purchasing team to perform inventory analysis and ensure effective utilization.
  • Leverages data analysis to improve the team's performance and identify opportunities to influence product development priorities
  • Applies LEAN Manufacturing techniques to improve the efficiency of each work center.
  • Identifies and support continuous improvement projects.
  • Uses KPI's to improve processes to include On-Time Deliveries, Scrap, Budget completion compared to Forecast
  • Must be able to communicate to all levels from manufacturing floor to Senior Management
  • Enforces use of scanners to prevent discrepancies in inventory.


Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum three to five years of management level manufacturing environment experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the areas of complex problem solving, operation monitoring, management of material resources, coordination of people and resources.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience managing through multiple direct reports and ability to communicate through all levels of the organization.


Qualifications:

  • BA Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of metal fabrication and powder coating processes
  • Familiar with Safety programs and OSHA requirements.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other Shop Floor methods to improve efficiency and production control.


Physical Requirements:

  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels.
  • Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work environment is at times dusty due to the manufacturing aspect.
