OSP Network Planner

Omni Fiber is seeking a highly skilled and motivated OSP Network Planner to join our dynamic team at Omni Fiber. This position combines the critical responsibilities of planning fiber optic networks, with a focus on project management. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ArcGIS and a proven track record in the planning, development, and implementation of outside plant (OSP) fiber networks. This is a full-time, primarily remote opportunity at Omni Fiber.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and plan fiber optic networks including backbone, feeder, and last-mile connections.
  • Utilize ArcGIS and GIS software to map, plan, and refine fiber optic networks, ensuring the most efficient network design.
  • Conduct remote site surveys and assessments to determine optimal placement of network facilities.
  • Create and maintain detailed design documentation, including network layouts, splice diagrams, route maps, and fiber construction drawings.
  • Identify the scope of work (SOW) and develop detailed SOWs outlining technical and operational aspects of each project.
  • Apply vendor rates to set an initial budget based on cost efficiency.
  • Write and maintain SOW templates to ensure clear and consistent documentation across all projects.
  • Perform feasibility studies and cost analysis to support design decisions and network deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, field engineers, and contractors to ensure the accuracy and feasibility of design implementation.
  • Review and approve submitted designs and ensure compliance with company guidelines, industry standards, and local regulations.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in fiber optic technology and best practices within the industry.
  • Demonstrate smart and cost-effective decision-making within design parameters.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working with ArcGIS and fiber optic network planning.
  • Strong background in fiber optic technology and network design, including backbone, feeder, and last-mile connections.
  • Basic understanding of construction techniques to help inform good design decisions.
  • Experience navigating the needs of construction vs. customer relations with a cost control mindset.
  • Experience in project management and leading fiber optic network projects from planning to deployment.
  • Proficiency in using GIS and CAD software for network design and layout.
  • Experience creating detailed design documentation, including splice diagrams, and redline updates.
  • Ability to negotiate vendor rates and manage external vendor relationships.
  • Experience with Scope of Work (SOW) creation and project documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make cost-effective and smart decisions.
  • Familiarity with OSP design standards, local regulations, and best practices.
  • PMP or other project management certifications is but not required.
  • Prior experience in designing and deploying fiber networks for MDUs or other complex OSP architectures.
