About this Opportunity

BMG has an exciting opportunity for a Paper Tooling Design Engineer as part of our growing fiber-based business! This position can be located at our USA sites – Fremont, OH, or Beaverton, MI.

We are looking for someone to join our team who has knowledge and experience in mechanical/tooling designs related to paper forming. This role will provide technical assistance for solutions to production problems relating to materials, processes, and tooling working closely with our engineering, manufacturing and marketing departments. The ideal candidate has knowledge and experience designing tooling systems for paper products and is familiar working with fiber-based materials.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work with the team in researching paper/materials technology for opportunities to develop new fiber-based products.
  2. Lead the tooling design and participate in the design reviews with customers to interpret their requirements into functional and manufacturable designs.
  3. Completes 3D models and drawings for new product development projects.
  4. Leads prototype development, including creating customer-required samples.
  5. Validates new tooling by developing testing plans (product performance testing, validation testing, fit/form/function, compliance testing) for paper thermoformed products.
  6. Capable of managing multiple projects, priorities, and shared resources simultaneously in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  7. Develops paper tooling and technical process standard specifications for newly-developed products.
  8. Supports cross-functional team to drive product improvement, cost reduction, and product specification efforts.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Read and interpret work orders and specifications.
  2. Assist Marketing and Manufacturing departments on product design and production.
  3. Provide input on job estimates and market sizing for new products as required.
  4. Help with concept and layout drawings as well as drawing changes to ensure design meets accepted engineering standards and project requirements.
  5. Participate in design reviews for evaluation of work order requirements.
  6. Assist in representing the design team in customer and final design reviews.
  7. Ensure design considerations, concepts and calculations are documented and filed.
  8. Direct various design activities on assigned projects.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of 2+ years of experience with specific background working in design and validation of tooling systems including trim tooling.
  3. Proficient in 3D CAD software and analysis tools.
  4. Product and tooling experience in thermoform and paper converting platforms .
  5. Experience in fiber-based materials, paper and/or plastic materials and processes .
  6. A minimum requirement for this position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position.
  7. Must be able to travel 20% as required for the role.

ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
