Payroll Accountant (Hybrid Position)

Position Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to manage multi-state payroll processing for our 300+ employee organization using ADP. This role is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate payroll processing on a weekly and bi-weekly basis, managing payroll taxes, calculating commissions and incentive plans, and assisting with the headcount budget. The ideal candidate has strong payroll accounting experience and a solid understanding of compliance regulations. This position is a hybrid position and reports to the Accounting Manager. Responsibilities include:
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and review multi-state payroll using ADP Workforce Now, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Administer payroll on weekly and bi-weekly schedules, including regular wages, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.
- Calculate and reconcile quarterly incentive plans and commission structures.
- Manage payroll filings which include garnishments, benefits contribution, leave administration and federal, state, and local taxes. Ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Assist with headcount budgeting, tracking payroll-related costs, and forecasting labor expenses.
- Maintain payroll records, audits, and reports to support accounting and compliance requirements.
- Partner with HR to ensure payroll changes (new hires, terminations, salary adjustments, benefits deductions) are accurately recorded.
- Support month-end close activities by preparing payroll journal entries and reconciliations.
- Stay updated on payroll-related laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll and earnings statements.
- Manage and collaborate with third party payroll vendors, and act as a primary point of contact for external audits.
- Assist with other tasks as assigned to support accounting and finance.
- Possess and apply a solid understanding of accounting principles
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex financial data and apply judgment in decision-making.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate financial risks and opportunities.

Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of payroll processing experience in a multi-state environment.
- Proficiency with ADP payroll software (Workforce Now or similar) .
- Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, wage laws, and multi-state payroll compliance.
- Experience calculating commissions and incentive-based compensation a plus.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive payroll information.
Qualifications:
- Experience in headcount budgeting and payroll cost analysis.
- Knowledge of payroll integrations with accounting systems
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification is a plus.
Physical Activities:
