Perfume Chemist (Gas Chromatography Specialist)
The Perfume Chemist (Gas Chromatography Specialist) applies a strong background in chemistry to evaluate and enhance fragrances. Using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), this role is responsible for analyzing fragrance ingredients, ensuring their consistency, quality, and alignment with customer expectations. The Perfume Chemist collaborates with both the Perfumery and Regulatory teams to ensure that fragrances meet industry standards while preserving their intended scent characteristics.
Requirements of the Perfume Chemist (Gas Chromatography Specialist)
- A degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience and training in Analytical Perfumery; membership in the American Society of Perfumers is .
- Experience working in a lab environment, ideally in the fragrance industry.
- Proficiency in Gas Chromatography (GC) techniques.
- Odor evaluation experience is a bonus but not essential.
- Exposure to various fragrance ingredients with the ability to distinguish and describe different scent profiles accurately.
Responsibilities of the Perfume Chemist (Gas Chromatography Specialist)
- Use gas chromatography tools to examine and identify the chemical makeup of fragrance samples. Skilled in interpreting chromatograms to analyze fragrance composition, with a focus on identifying key components in natural essential oils.
- Apply headspace analysis to assess the fragrance composition and adjust formulas to align with customer preferences and industry standards.
- Ensure that developed fragrances meet established quality criteria and maintain the intended scent profile.
- Maintain precise records of all experiments, formulations, and analytical data to ensure compliance with industry standards and provide a reliable reference for future projects.
- Stay informed about the latest industry trends, technologies, and advancements in gas chromatography, continuously exploring new ingredients and techniques to improve fragrance creation processes.
Full-Time, DIRECT HIRE
Pay is $100,000 - $125,000 annually, based on experience
