Chemring Energetics UK are a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers. An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a Planning Manager.


The successful candidate will own the Master Production Schedule (MPS) process; coordinate demand status from Sales and Operating Plan through to creation of MPS and Operational plans; MRP and parameter integrity; develop planning capability.

The Planning Manager will cover the planning and scheduling of all revenue generating items at the Ardeer site, including both manufactured product and programme/development items. The role has direct responsibility for the Planning within the Operations Function.

The role holder will also ensure delivery of a technically compliant solution which meets international and customer standards and specifications whilst adhering to Business processes. Develop and maintain strategic relationships, internally (within Chemring Group) and externally (with established key customers) to achieve a high standard of customer satisfaction and support business growth. Provide business intelligence, about existing key customers, to the CEUK Business Development team to aid longer-term strategy development.


Key Accountabilities & Duties:

  • Carry out all activities in full compliance with H&SE legislation, within company policy and procedure.
  • Responsible for reporting any unsafe acts or unsafe conditions observed (using the Near Miss System) in accordance with responsibilities under the Health and Safety at work Act.
  • Ensure compliance with Group, Company and legislative Environmental Policy and procedures.
  • Develop and manage the Master Production Schedule in the company’s ERP and Planning systems to prepare requirements for purchased and manufactured parts and associated Subcontract Plans
  • Develop and Manage Short-medium-Long term rough cut capacity planning to support execution and development of business growth.
  • Review rough cut materials availability to plan; providing forecast information to Purchasing with re-plan where necessary.
  • Drive continuous improvement around creation and development of planning process.
  • Develop scenario analysis capability for capacity assessment and to support optimising forecast and sales.
  • Ensure complete and timely closure of Manufacturing Orders, reconciling materials consumption.
  • Support Planning revenue commitments for Engineering programmes.
  • Support new business Contract Review to provide optimised delivery dates to support optimised customer delivery
  • Oversee and report on Plan adherence and supporting KPIs
  • Drive compliance, efficiency and effective use of the company’s ERP system
  • Identify and contribute towards feasible solutions to cross functional planning improvements.
  • Manage a small Team including workload distribution and performance/Development management.

  • Knowledge of the principles of company policy and operating procedures in order to ensure site and company compliance.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Degree or relevant experience within a relevant business discipline
  • Minimum 5 years Planning experience in an ERP based manufacturing purchasing environment (Planning, MRP, ERP).
  • Knowledge and practical experience of modern planning practices and procedures within an ERP driven Manufacturing environment.
  • Numerate and computer literate. Attentive to detail.
  • Knowledge of ERP and MS Office products essential. Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Adept in verbal and written communication. Ability to build relationships and influence at all levels.
  • In-depth knowledge of ERP systems including parameter setting, material and labour recording.
  • Experience managing teams.
