Job Title: Planning Solicitor (Built & Natural Environment)

Location: Walsall Council

Woking Hours: 37 hours per week

Pay Rate: Negotiable

\n

Work Mode: Predominantly remote with some on-site requirement

Assignment Duration: 3 months temporary with potential extension

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Solicitor to join the Legal Services team, specialising in planning, environmental, and highways law. You will play a key role in providing clear, high-quality legal advice to internal stakeholders, including Members, officers, and client departments, while managing a varied caseload that supports the Council's objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a wide-ranging caseload, including planning, environmental, highways, and housing law matters.
  • \n

  • Advise at Planning Committees and provide clear, concise legal advice in written and verbal form.
  • \n

  • Support and collaborate with the Principal Solicitor and colleagues to ensure a professional and comprehensive legal service.
  • \n

  • Proactively resolve legal issues and provide guidance on complex matters.
  • \n

  • Represent the Council in negotiations, hearings, inquiries, and committees.
  • \n

  • Deliver work within agreed timescales, ensuring adherence to quality standards and relevant legislation.
  • \n

About You:
You will be a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in planning law and a good working knowledge of local government and environmental law. You will have excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiating skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively. A commitment to professional development, adaptability to modern working practices, and a strong client focus are essential.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Solicitor with evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • \n

  • Proven experience in planning and environmental law.
  • \n

  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • \n

  • Ability to deliver clear, concise legal advice to non-specialists.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of local government frameworks and issues.
  • \n

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
  • \n
